<2:50 AM>
I can't sleep.
The thought of leaving has kept me up all night. I can't stay, but I need to. The Capital needs me, but I definitely don't need them. My parents need me, but I can't put up with their way of order.
I check my phone for texts from Eli. Nothing. My phone is blank, giving me the weather and time. 2:53 AM. 41 degrees. Cloudy, even at nighttime. I have to join Eli and the rebels. I have to do something with this life that I have. What would be of this future of mine if I stayed? I have the freedom to move, as long as I am not seen. I have to travel undercover, at least until I get out of federal range. The line of the Capital's territory ends in about 5 different train rides, all different cars. I need to leave.
So, I do.
I quietly get up, and make my bed for the last time. The memories hold onto my fingers as the comforter slips through my hands. This is what I choose. I choose to leave, to walk away from this god forsaken mess I have waded myself into. I walk over to my closet and pull on my durable skinny jeans that are a dark shade of green, and a black tank top. Over that, I layer my favorite oversized long sleeve t-shirt that belongs to my father. It is one of the only things that he has given me that I truly worship; its thick material and comfortable build. It sports my college logo on it and is very loose on my thin frame. I borrowed it a month ago, and he has never asked for it back. I slip on my black bomber jacket over the shirt, and pull on grey, heavy boot socks, and my favorite calf-length combat boots. They are soft but firm, and are very hardy.
I grab my large, black backpack that I used in school, and pack some necessities. A sweater, ear buds, and directions to the Rebel Capital. Extra socks. I clasp my grandmother's locket around my neck for good luck, and tuck it under my shirt so only the faint gold chain is visible around my pale neck. I grab my phone with it's charger, and my wallet, carrying a debit card with $13,000 on it, and some extra cash. That should be enough. Hopefully, the rebel people will give me a place to sleep for a while until I get a decent job with them. I throw a thick scarf around my neck, and wrap my long brown hair into a perfect bun.
I pack a book, my compact journal and pen, sunglasses, extra hair ties, and some gum. I also get my DC Capitol Train Pass, giving me unlimited train and bus rides in the country. I check around my room for anything else I might need in a day's worth. Nothing. I should get to the Rebel Territory by late morning. I can get food on the way. I apply light makeup before sneaking out of my window. I unlatch my bike from the garage, and start to pedal down the street.
I am free.
