"Mom! Look I drew a picture of a unicorn! Is it good mom?! ", I shouted, running into the kitchen. Entering the kitchen, a sweet scent of chocolate passed through my nose. My mom was at the kitchen counter placing the chocolate stuffed cookies on a bright red plate. Turning her gaze down at me she spoke, "Oh! That's a pink unicorn, it's so cute Lulu." Scowling, I looked at my mom saying, "Hey! I am a big girl now! Don't call me Lulu!, I am ten years old.", I said proudly pointing my fingers up in the air.
"No matter how old you get baby, you will always be my Lulu.", said my mom tapping my head. "Okay, but I am still angry with you.", I said crossing my arms. "Ma'am what shall I do in order to make you a bit less angry?", said my mom in a sarcastic manner. I peeked over the counter saying, " If you give me this whole plate of cookies, I can think about your forgiving you mom." My mom narrowed her eyes looking at me, handing over two cookies. "Mom! I asked for the whole plate!"
"These are for you only baby, you can have the rest whenever you want. " she said patting my head. "Okay but I am still angry at you." Saying this I walked out of the living room. While having the cookies mom gave me, I heard a loud clamor from the kitchen
Hurriedly, I dropped the cookies and ran to where my mom was. When I reached the door, peeking over the sight in front of my eyes made me frightened in panic. The red plate which was placed on the counter shattered into tiny pieces all across the kitchen. Cookies baked by mom were haphazardly scattered on the marble floor. I saw my mom standing by the counter, with one of her hands on the counter trying to support herself and the other covering her jaw which was spilling with blood. On seeing the horrific state of my mom I jumped towards her, "Mom! What happened to you! Who did this!!", my piercing shrieks filled the kitchen. "Go to your room and lock your door honey and don't come out until I say so."
The moment I was about to open my mouth to assure her that I won't leave her in this state and go to my room, suddenly someone snatched me by my arm and violently tossed me across the floor. Wincing in pain while laying on the ground, I looked up and saw my dad standing with a bottle of alcohol in his hands. "Don't go closer to my child!" screamed my mom from the other side of the kitchen.
Ignoring all of my mom's cries, my dad raised his bottle of alcohol at me and smashed my face with it. The shattering sound of the glass hitting my face was followed by my shrill cries. The shards of the glass pierced into my face, and made tears roll down my cheeks. I was laying down in my own blood, shaking with pain. "Mom! It hurts! Mom!
MOM!!", my eyes shot open! God.. it was a dream, or rather should I say a memory. I looked around but failed to see anything as the room was covered with darkness, except small strokes of moonlight was shining through the blinds in front of the bed. The sound of the crickets and the occasional howling of faraway dogs broke the silence of the night. I looked around to see a completely different room than what I usually stay in. The very moment I realized it was an unfamiliar environment, I jerked to sit up. In this process, the insufferable pain in my head shot through my nerves. All the images since evening started to replay in my brain, starting from my brother calling me to one of the men hitting me so hard, leading me to black out.
Men! Where are those men?
Nervousness coursed through me in a split second. Very carefully I lifted the covers laid on me and put my feet on the cold floor without making any unwanted noise. Standing up, I stumbled towards the balcony attached to the room.
A cold gust of wind blew on my face, calming my nervousness down a bit. I locked my gaze up on the night sky. Everything seemed so calm but in reality, nothing was, once again. The pale crescent moon shone like a silvery claw in the night sky. It was stretched with a blanket of stars up to infinity.
"Enjoying the view?", I heard a deep and husky voice speaking up behind me. Being alarmed, I swiftly turned toward where the incredibly deep voice was coming from.
Who in the sweet hell is this?
My eyes glanced over to the man standing in front of me. Or should I refer to it as, the Devil himself. He stood at a distance from me with his hands crossed. His tall, muscular physique stood against the door frame. The muscles of his arms bulged as he tightened his fists. He was wearing a black shirt that freely exposed his tattoos all over his body, starting from his neck, it went on. The intoxicating smell of cigarettes mixed with a warm woody fragrance made me cross the threshold of immense addiction. I lifted my gaze to his eyes, I sensed it screaming power and burning menace. His blue eyes sparkled like pools of crystals in the moonlight.
Not only me, anyone could be addicted to this stature standing in front of me as if he owns this world.
"Cat got your tongue ?", he spoke in a chilling voice; adding a blank expression. Slowly and steadily he started inching closer to me. With the number of steps he advanced toward me, I took an equal number of steps backing away from him. He took out a cigarette from his pockets and started smoking it walking towards me until the distance between us was awfully short.
His cologne, his cigarette, his voice, the devilish smirk on his face made my whole body shake. And I knew exactly who he was. Dario fucking D'Angelo.
Grabbing my throat he pulled my face towards him, "Are you afraid of me cucciola?"
