Freja huffed out a breath as she ran up the staircase to the Ice Palace. The cold didn't bother her. She always kept warm with her magic. She grabbed the handles of the double doors and pulled them open. "Elias!" she yelled as she ran to the grand stairs, making her way up tp them. She stopped as she noticed spikes protruding from the walls and the floor. Spikes that weren't there before. The king's anger and fear must be taking over his magic. "Elias! Anna needs you."
"Leave!" Elias announced from the room he stood in. The same room he didn't leave from. "You can't be here Freja."
The young girl groaned as she entered the room, stomping her way to the King. "Stop acting this way." She snapped with slight panic. She was worried for Anna. She needed to get him to go back to his kingdom. "Your sister is dying!"
Elias stopped, quickly turning to her. "What?" he asked, concern written all over his face.
"So I was right." She said softly. "You didn't realize your magic hit Anna." She went over to him calmly, gently grabbing his hands. They weren't gloved so she could feel the cold against his skin. "She's dying from a frozen heart. Only an act of true love can save her."
Elias swallowed thickly, feeling the heat from her hands. His cheeks blushed slightly from her touch. "I won't be able to save her." Tears formed in his eyes as he tried to pull away but she didn't let him.
"You are her brother. You are the only person who can help her." Freja sighed softly as she glanced up at his blue eyes. "You may have ice magic, but you are not a monster. You freeze things," she chuckled as she said this. "Elias, I burn things. Which is worse?"
Elias frowned at her words. "That doesn't make you a monster either."
"No, it doesn't. I learned years ago to accept who I am. To accept my powers." She gently cupped his cheeks, trying to soothe him. "Now it's your turn. I am more than happy to help you."
"I-" Elias stopped as he heard a commotion from outside. He ran to the balcony and peeked out the doors. Hans and the Duke's thugs were attacking Marshmallow from below. "Hans," he said as he quickly shut the doors. "Freja, you must get to safety."
Suddenly, the doors to the room burst open. The thugs aimed their crossbows at the pair, ready to fire. "Stay away!" Elias shouted as he gently pushed Freja behind him.
One of the thugs shot an arrow at the king but he created an ice wall in front of him. The arrow stopped just a few inches from his face. He backed away, pushing Freja back with him. "Elias, I can handle myself," she said but he ignored her.
"Get him!" the thug shouted, continuing their attack as Elias shot ice at them. He quickly created a spiked cage, trapping one of the thugs in it. He pushed the other thug with an ice wall up against the balcony doors. The doors shattered and he was pushed to the edge, inches away from falling.
Hans and a few of his men rushed in. "King Elias! Don't be the monster they fear you are."
This made Elias come to his senses. He looked at the men who were frightened because of him. He let out a shaky breath and slowly retreated the ice wall away from the thug. He then lowered the ice spikes from the second thug's neck.
Freja noticed one of the thugs was aiming at Elias with his crossbow. She quickly made a ball of fire with her hands and shot it at his feet. The thug lost his balance as Hans and the guards gasped. "Another one?" Hans inwardly groaned.
The arrow that the thug had shot hit the ice chandelier, causing it to fall. Elias was right under it but Freja managed to push him out of the way. "Freja!" Elias shouted as the young girl hit the floor, unconscious from the impact.
Elias ran over to her quickly, gently grabbing her. "You must come back with us," Hans said. "Both of you."
