Alright guys bear with me, this is my first story and my first attempt at writing. I'll try to not have many grammar mistakes but I will like you all to be 100% truthful with your comments. Thanks!

"You cannot shift anymore Akadian!" I remember my mother telling me this over and over since I first shifted at age 9.
The first time I shifted, I was so scared! I heard the loud cracking of bones breaking, piercing the night air while my mother watched on, helpless. There was nothing she could do to help, and we both knew that. I just had to wait it out, painfully, I might add.
After the shift, I lay on the ground panting, but instead of a small nose on my face it is a snout. It feels so weird to have this big head, not just 2 legs but 4! I tried standing but my legs were shaky, so I kept falling. Finally mustering all the strength I had, I stood up. Still panting I finally look to my mother and she is still sitting on her bottom looking at me with pure shock. I didn't understand why.
She slowly stood up on shaky legs, and approached me. She ran her hand down my fur, barely making contact. She made it back to my head, she looked me in my eyes and gasped! I looked back into her eyes and saw the reflection of my newly shifted self.
I was a pure white panther with violet eyes, it turned my head and body to see the rest of my body, I had a black stripe from my muzzle to the tip of my tail. I looked back at my mother and she looked at me with wide eyes, she ran inside and came back with some pajamas.
"Go shift back behind the tree," she said barely above a whisper.
I cocked my head to the side and gave her this look like how do I do that.
She chuckled breathlessly. "Think of yourself as a human again," she told me.
I ran behind the bushes and thought about being a human again. I thought about my fingers, how my face looked, and soon I was standing on my 2 feet and was looking at my hands. It was such a confusing thing to know you shift into a panther, my head reached my mom's chest, she was 5'9, so about the size of a baby horse. I slowly walked back to my mother who was sitting back on the ground, I sat by her and she took my hand in hers. We stayed this way for about 10 minutes, then she finally spoke.
"Akadian, I need you to listen to me carefully. You can never shift again..." She said with sad eyes.
I looked at my mother, confusion written on my face. She sighed heavily, she turned to me on the grass, and looked me in the eyes before she told me a story that would forever change my life, at age 9.
"Many years ago when the Goddess made the first Were-Panther, she chose a man, Cristoval, and a woman, Kiara, who would be mated together for all eternity. The man's panther spirit made his panther black with a white stripe from muzzle to tail, and the woman was designed the complete opposite, white with a black stripe from muzzle to tail. After many long years, the man became restless with being mated to one person. When the Goddess chose the man and woman, they had lives before she gave them the spirits. She chose them because they were both leaders, strong minded, and intelligent. But her decision came with a price...
When the man became restless he went out in search of other women to satisfy his needs. He did this many times, granted him and the woman had many children together that were pure were-panthers, but because of the man's selfishness, he created half breeds. The children of the pure breeds all were the same as the parents. The boys were black with white stripes and the girls were white with black stripes. Because of Cristoval's betrayal the Goddess wanted to give the pure breeds one more chance. She sent a spirit to Kiara and she became pregnant.
She was pregnant with a boy, when the boy was born he shifted immediately out of the womb, he was a pure white panther with a black stripe. The Goddess spoke to Kiara and said she had given the were-panther spirit to another woman, who was human, who would have a girl who would be born black with a white stripe. This would be the sons mate, when they meet they will save the race of the Were-Panthers and be the true Alpha and Luna of ALL Were-Panthers. The man grew mad with the Goddess, for he was power hungry, so he had the boy killed, and set off in search of the girl. The Council was then created to stabilize the Alpha, but soon they became as corrupt as Cristoval."
She looked at me with tears in her eyes, "Akadian you must never show anyone your panther, ok?"
I promised her and hugged her for dear life. After that first night of shifting, I never shifted again. No matter how "cramped" my panther got, I knew it was for the safety of me and my mother.
********9 Years Later*********
I'm now sitting in the hospital bed next to my mother who is currently on her death bed. She had developed a rare disease and it was slowly killing her from the inside out. All her organs were shutting down or failing to do its job and caused her to get sick easily. I held her hand and told her how school was going, my new job I just started, and I just told her about my day every time I came to her room.
She weakly moved her head to the side so she could see me and hoarsely whispered my name. She motioned for me to bring her some water. I brought the water over and put the straw to her lips, and she drank feverishly. When she was done she laid back against the pillows and sighed.
"Akadian, I have another story for you," she said weakly, finding my hand to hold like it was her life line.
She took a deep breath before she continued solemnly. "I need to tell you about your father."
I gasped. Every time I asked about who my father was she would change the subject, so I finally just stopped asking. This was intriguing to me, so I hung onto every word she said.
"I am human and your father was a were-panther, we met in Brazil when I was doing research with some anthropologists, he was one of them. We fell in love instantly, we had a great thing going for a few years and then I became pregnant. At first he was ecstatic, and then he came to me one day and said he had found his mate and left. Akadian your father is the Alpha of all were-Panthers, and you are the first born and rightful heir to the throne."
I sat back in shock. Alpha? Of all Were-Panthers? Like the story from when I was 9? I had all these questions running through my mind and when I looked back to my mother, she was still.
I didn't realize the monitors stopped beeping with her weak heartbeat. In seconds, nurses came rushing in pushing me aside to try to bring my mother back, but I knew it was too late. My mother was gone. The one person who has been there through everything was now gone and I was left completely and utterly alone, for my mother was an only child and my grandparent died years ago.
Alone, completely alone.
