Rose was sitting under a withering elm tree sipping on an iced-coffee and smoking a Marlboro. She set her coffee down and started drawing shapes in the dirt, none of any significance. Just a distracted subconscious. She finished her cigarette, picked up her coffee, walked over to an empty park bench and sat down. She smelled a hint of jasmine in the air.

She slipped her headphones in and started blasting Crown The Empire. She sat quietly on the bench listening to the music blaring from the earbuds, trying to drown out the voices in her head. They were a part of her, she couldn't get away from them. Couldn't escape her mind. The voices were shouting at her. They rarely gave her any peace, always nagging and yelling, or talking about her. She wanted to escape them. The only time they were ever truly silent was when she was high. She didn't hear them anymore if she was high. She craved that release from her subconscious. She stood up and started walking home. It was a long walk. Passing houses of many people she knew didn't like her, but it didn't matter. She didn't like them either.

She was about half way home when her phone buzzed. She checked the caller i.d., it was her dad. She clicked ignore. Her phone beeped with a voicemail notification. She clicked the lock button and put it back in her pocket. She didn't want to talk to her father right now, they'd always had a pretty strained relationship. They didn't get along very well, they never had. she didn't mind though, he often put money on her debit card, that was good enough for her.
