He came home to a candlelight dinner. At first, he thought he might have walked into the wrong apartment. Jimmy pushed his glasses up his nose and stared at the table: fine china, white wine, shining chopsticks, cloth napkins.

This is for Seth, he thought. Not me.

But then Mandy came around the corner with steaming bowls of hot and sour soup on a tray.

"Hey, honey," she said. "The pork is almost done."

She was wearing an elegant black dress and high heels. He noticed red lipstick and eyeliner. Jimmy stood there in the middle of the room, holding his briefcase, and blinked.

Mandy smiled and gestured to the nearest chair. "Sit." She set down the soup tray. "I'll join you in a minute," she said, turned with a swish of black hair, and headed back to the kitchen.

Jimmy sat down. He shifted uncomfortably in the chair. He looked over his shoulder at the front door and peered down the hallway.

What did this mean?

He was sipping on a glass of wine when Mandy came back with the pork. It smelled divine. She was an excellent cook, among other things.

She set it on the table and sat across from Jimmy, curling her feet up beneath her. "So, how was your day?"

Jimmy raised an eyebrow. "Fine."

"Don't be like that," Mandy said. "We can have a normal conversation, can't we?"

"Not if we don't have a normal relationship."

"What's normal?"

"Maybe that's my point."

"Just because Seth's in the picture doesn't mean I don't care about you." She took a sip of hot and sour soup.

Jimmy didn't respond, instead reaching for a helping of pork.

"Jimmy. All I want is for you to find your balance. I feel comfortable with my relationship with you and my relationship with Seth. I know what you give me and what he gives me. And I know what I give to both of you."

Jimmy was chewing on pork. He covered his mouth with the back of his hand. "What do you give me?"

Mandy was perplexed. "Support. If you ever need to talk to me, if you're lonely or sad. We can have fun together. Like when we went to the zoo."

"That was two months ago."

"Exactly." She put down her spoon, growing more animated. "We need to spend time together like that again. Like a couple."

"What about Seth?"

"I'm not his girlfriend. It's purely a physical thing. It's different." They looked down at the table. Mandy picked up her spoon and stirred her soup.

"But I think we should talk about that too," she said. "I think you need to consider your place in our relationship, sexually and emotionally."

Another bite of pork. He didn't bother to cover his mouth this time. "Not interested."

Mandy smiled. She placed her spoon on the table again and folded her hands. "I think we both know that's not true."

Jimmy grimaced and shook his head. "Fuck off, Mandy."

"Have you ever asked yourself why you haven't left me? I mean, I'm fucking another guy and sending you the evidence. Yesterday, you filmed me riding a dildo for him. Because he told us too. You're as much a part of this as me. So why don't you leave?"

Jimmy shot up from his seat, knocking the chair over. "Maybe I will then!" He walked away from the table, turned back."Fuck!" He rubbed his temples.

"I think you're still here because deep down—"

"No."

"Hear me out. Because deep down, you like it."

"Like it?!" Jimmy slammed his fists on the table. "How could I like it? How could I like it when some other guy fucks you? Are you insane? I can't believe you'd say that!"

Mandy's tongue slid into her cheek. She studied him, twirling a chopstick around in her fingers. "Did you jerk off at the hotel?"

It was an arrow through the heart. He choked on his words. "What? What're you--"

"At the hotel, when Seth and I fucked for the first time, and we sent you those videos: Did you jerk off?"

Jimmy was sweating. He scoffed and shook his head and stood there silently. He put his hands on his hips.

"It's OK," Mandy said.

"It's not OK. What kind of a person--"

"A person who liked what he saw. It's OK. I don't think any less of you."

Jimmy narrowed his eyes.

"I don't." She stood and circled the table, put her hand on his shoulder. "Honey, you've never exactly been an alpha male. That's not your role. I just want you to be happy with who you are inside."

Someone knocked on the door.

Mandy smiled and clapped her hands. "I got it!" she said.

A cold chill ran down Jimmy's spine. "Wait. That's not--"

Mandy reached for the doorknob. "I thought maybe we could try to play out our roles tonight. You know, together." She opened the door and Seth strode inside wearing a tank top and sweatpants. A twelve-pack of beer was under his arm and his dick looked hard already. It ran down his right pants leg almost to the knee.

"Sup, fuck face," he said, and pushed Jimmy into the wall. "What's for dinner?"
