This is a list of recommendations for my favorite holiday of books, movies and shows!
Movies:
The Witch (2015)
A family gets banished from their pilgrim village to a home near the woods where strange occurrences and deaths keep happening.
Love this movie! It is near and dear to my heart. It's such a sad ending but in a way I like.
Premonition (2004)
A father gets a one in a life chance to save his marriage and his late daughter.
I love this movie so much, it was my first ever Japanese movie and it's amazing.
A Chinese Ghost Story (1987)
A love story between an abused ghost and a mortal who wants to save her.
This movie is near and dear to my heart, it's such a beautifully corny movie.
Transylvania 6-5000 (1985)
Speaking of corny movies, Transylvania 6-5000 is a movie of two failing journalists who go to Transylvania to find monsters, only to discover the monsters in charge.
Funny, lovable and there's Jeff Goldblum ❤️
House of Usher (1960)
A young man goes to find his sick wife in her home, only to find her house is haunted and her elder brother is controlled by their ancestor's ghosts.
Love! My mom's a big Vincent Price fan and I've seen pretty much every movie he's been in. This and Pit in the Pendulum are personal favorites.
Halloweentown:
Everyone knows this one, and if you don't, color me surprised. Is it the best movie? No. But is it a classic adored by many? Yes, I am one of those many. I watch it every year with my brother.
My Scary Godmother:
This was a movie that ran every year when I was young, and I thought it was a fever dream for a long time. Glad to have found it again.
Ginger Snaps (2000)
After a gruesome attack of a werewolf, a teen has to deal with her transformation, and her sister is forced to choose between family and morality.
A beautiful movie! You rarely see female werewolves on screen, and Ginger Snaps is an amazing take on the genre.
Books:
I Hunt Killers series by Barry Lyga
The son of an infamous serial killer hunts other killers with police while battling his own urges to kill.
I love this series, I have the whole collection. My personal favorite volume is the second one.
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
Anne Rice was an author my mom has held close to her heart for years and refused to let me read until I was sixteen or seventeen.
Personally, again my favorite novel in the series is the second one. I find Louis annoying but Lestat is so perfect. I love him.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
A young half-human half-vampire becomes thr guardian of a royal vampire and close friend, and has to prove herself amongst people and fight the bad guys.
This was a book I read at a young age that had a pretty significant impact on me, sexuality wise. Not only was I attracted to one of the female characters, but I was also attracted to one of the monstrous characters.
Shows:
Dragula
A horror themed drag competition show! This show is so good, I just wished they focused less heavily on the drama aspect.
My favorite season is season one and my favorite competitors are Dollya Black, Victoria Black, Dahli, Hoso Terra Toma and Landon Cider. Available on Shudder!
What We Do In The Shadows:
A mockumentary about the life of a vampire familiar and the vampires he lives with.
10/10, this show is everything. I want to marry Nadja. Available on Hulu.
Wellington Paranormal:
Made by the same people who made What We Do In The Shadows, this is also a mockumentary about two police officers trying to hunt down supernatural creatures in New Zealand.
A fun, amazing show, I love it so much! Officer Minogue is my favorite character.
