Marcy's pov

Everything burns. Scorching pain runs through my body. I hear the loud crash outside. Almost deafening. I open my eyes slightly. Seeing Anne and Sasha beside me makes me feel a little better. Dust burns my eyes. I can hardly breathe. The world feels distorted. Everything is too bright and too loud. I close my eyes, feeling my lungs filling with ashes and dust.

I woke up in a daze. I took a breath in, savouring the clear scent of wet stones somewhere nearby. Wait, what? That couldn't have been right. When I fell asleep, I was almost being suffocated by the amount of dust in the air, so why was the air suddenly so humid and clear? I sat up after a moment, looking around. Wait, hadn't I gone with Anne, Sasha, and the rest of the group back to the plantar household? Why was I suddenly in a cave? Did I mention that? I was in a cave! How?? Directly in front of me seemed to be the mouth of the small cave. I stood, walking out into the light. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I realised that it was raining. A heavy fog hung in the air, painting the world in shades of blue and grey. I heard faint talking, but couldn't see anybody through the mist. However, placed on a small table nearby, I noticed something. My bag, I thought as I moved closer. It was clearly mine; it still had the remnants of one of my keychains. However, it seemed to be made moreso of stone than the soft plush fabric it should have been. That changed the moment I grabbed it though. In an instant, it seemed to revert back to its normal soft state. Ok, now I was officially freaked out. I turned back to the cave. Examining the cave closer, I saw bricks lining the walls. oh, also the fact that Sasha and Anne were here too. wait, what? Sasha?? Anne??? I thought, looking closely at them. And then, I noticed it. Right in the spot where I had been laying, there was... a fucking skeleton. of course.. wait what?! weirder yet, it was a human skeleton. hadn't we been in amphibia when the whole-.... oh. glancing to my side, i noticed 2 abnormally large frog skeletons. i looked down at my hand, and for the first time, i realised that I seemed to be coloured in greyscale, somewhat translucent and giving off a ghostly glow. wait a minute... ghostly glow.... oh. OH. I looked at sasha and anne again. they were the same. i glanced down at the bones again. we....we didn't make it, did we? we...died, didn't we? that realisation shook me to my bones... or, it would have, if they hadn't been laying right in front of me. I wandered over to sasha and anne, now  extremely distraught. I needed them now. i gently shook them. "Ughhh, five more minutes," Anne grumbled. if it werent for the obvious, you'd have never known anything was wrong. but it was. everything seemed wrong now. i shook her again, causing her to reluctantly look up at me. she sat up, the movement in turn waking Sasha too. "....Marcy? what happened?" Anne asked, stretching slightly. Sasha sat up, looking around confusedly. I didn't know how to respond to anne's question. I mean, how do you explain to someone that you think they're dead? instead, i shook my head slightly, eyes wide, and remained silent. anne and sasha seemed to pick up on my distress, as they began to look worried. "marcy, you ok?" sasha asked, stretching her arms to offer a hug. i immediately accepted, squeezing into her outstretched arms. she pulled me a bit closer as i buried my face in her chest. it was actually kind of surprising. i had always thought of ghosts as being cold, but she was actually pretty warm. guess we really are dead, if i just called us ghosts..  But yet, i could still hear sasha's steady heartbeat, and feel her chest rise and fall with her breaths. I glanced up at her, then at Anne. On one hand, I was glad to be with them, but on the other... How in the world were we back? How long had we been dead?? It must have been a long time, as whatever remained of the plantar house was clearly buried. I sat up, and took a deep breath. "So, " I started nervously, unsure of how to go about explaining what I thought was going on, "basically, I have no idea what the hell is happening. I woke up and found my bag on a table outside but it looked fossilized, but then when I grabbed it, it went back to normal, also... " I blurted out, before pointing down at the set of skeletons below us. Anne was the first to react, screaming and moving off of the bones. When Sasha saw, she simply fainted. She did that a lot. She wasn't fight, flight, or freeze, she was always faint. I quickly grabbed her, trying to keep her from falling off the quite-possibly-fossilized bed. Anne joined in, and together we managed to get her back on the bed. "Ok, so, what you're saying is that we're dead? " Anne murmured, touching her fingertips to her sinus area as though she had a headache. I nodded slowly, fidgeting with my hands nervously. A potent air of unease and dismay quickly grew in the small cave, nearly suffocating me. I stood, walking back outside. For the first time, I realised that the raindrops fell straight through me. Well, that's unsettling, I thought. It felt weird, kind of tingly, and made me quiver a bit. Anne stood and joined me, looking out into the fog. It was hard to see, but I could faintly make out the edge of a cliff, with a vast expanse of trees below. "How long has it been? " Anne asked, grabbing my hand and intertwining our fingers together. I couldn't help but turn red and look away. "I- uh.. I'm not sure. I just woke up a couple of minutes ago at most. I'm still confused as to how we're even here. Are we ghosts? Spirits? Wisps? Wait, is that even the plural of wisp? Wisps? Wispspsps? Wispspspspspspsps? " I trailed off, making Anne chuckle. I sighed, then tensed as I heard a voice. More than that, it was a voice speaking fluent english. "Bloody hell," the voice cried, "the fucking bag is gone!" The voice had a strangely Australian accent, which seemed odd for a different planet.. Then again, it was also weird that the inhabitants of amphibia could not only speak English, but it seemed to be the main language too. I let go of Anne and wandered towards the sound of the voice. What I saw was quite unexpected. A mint-green frog, with long, messy brown hair, and light brown stripes with lighter green linings stood over the table where my bag had been, cursing under her breath. She turned suddenly with a shiver, scanning the area with her blobby brown eyes. She almost reminded me of an amazon milk frog from back home. Well, in all fairness, she very well may have been. Her gaze locked on me, and she squinted a bit, then shrugged and turned back around to continue her frustrated ramblings. "Hey, are you ok? " I asked, walking up beside her. She didn't seem to notice me. Right, ghost. I wanted to make absolute sure that she couldn't see me before giving up though. "Marcy, what are you doing?! " Anne called as I began climbing on the table. I called back, "Seeing if we're invisible or not! ", then stood at full height on the table. The frog looked up at me, and her eyes widened in shock, before she took a step back. I looked down at myself. Wait, now I was in full colour, no longer transparent or glowing. Then, just as suddenly as I went full colour, my skin seemed to poof back to the same shade of grey as before. Still, the frog seemed absolutely dumbfounded. " Aye, what the-" she sputtered,  before taking off in the opposite direction. "Well" Anne began, walking up to me, "that was... Bizarre, to say the least." I nodded. i glanced in the direction the frog had run, but she seemed to have been swallowed up by the fog. "well, at least we know that sometimes people can see us." I stated with a small shrug. anne nodded. i hopped off the table, grabbing anne by the hand and pulling her back into the cave, where Sasha was starting to regain consciousness. i wandered over to her, sitting beside her. "you alright?" i asked as i leaned on her shoulder. she nodded slowly, though she was eyeing the bones below her with wide eyes. honestly, i could understand. i grabbed her hand as Anne sat beside her and did the same. "so," Sasha asked, "does this mean we're....dead?" Anne squeezed her hand gently as she nodded. Sasha looked up, seeming terrified. "So then..." she muttered, glancing at both me and Anne, "What do we do now..?"

[A/n, sorry if the writing changes a bit throughout the chapters, it's cause I'm switching between writing on my phone and my school laptop. Also, credit to my Australian friend for helping write dialogue for the frog! If you're reading this, Birdie, shoutout to you!]
