So I was just rewatching 2012 TMNT and I got to the episode "New Girl in Town" (which is the one where 2012 Karai is introduced) and seeing Leo's reaction when Leo meets Karai and how Leo has acted in previous episodes I have come to the conclusion that Leo is in fact, a trans girl! Not only would it make more sense than having her fall in love with her half sister to have Karai be what makes Leo realize she's a girl it also makes sense with the way Leo acts. Also in a way because of how Splinter is I get the vibe he's just a tiny bit not supportive of the lgbt community so Leo not being his perfect son but instead his DAUGHTER seems fitting. Maybe I've just been getting too into Xlown.oozes's AU (they're on TikTok I love their art style and I read their fic even though it's a different app) but it makes sense to me.
