You silently stared at the window beside you, not really listening to the talk going on in the front seats. You were focused on the landscape, which stretched out as the trees moved with the car...and as it went on, there was an particular element that had caught your attention.

«...is all this fog normal?» You casually asked your parents, a little surprised by the climate change, especially if you didn't expect from some small country town. Or so you thought about the place you were heading to.

«Well...maybe it's gotten thicker than I remember, but I think it's just normal.» Of course, your mother answered with an enthusiasm different from yours «That's Haddonfield after all.»

Your father didn't take his eyes off the road, but he already imagined his wife's dazzling smile as she said that; obviously, when your mother had offered to go back to Haddonfield for a couple of days, you didn't say no, curious to know where your mother had grown up. Nothing less than a quiet town, you had thought the same moment you looked out the window again.

And maybe even too much...when your car crossed the threshold, you saw houses close together and on both sides of the road and gardens with trees and neatly cut grass; unlike large cities, there were no tall buildings in the distance and most probably, people who lived there were already old.

«Damn, this place hasn't changed a bit huh?» Your mother's eyes widened when she saw the same city as last time «And also Mr. Perry hasn't stopped decorating the house in that way. It's awful!»

Just then, you caught a house garishly decorated with pumpkin lanterns and cobwebs, as if it were haunted and was really fun to look at, also for someone like you who didn't have such a big obsession with the Halloween. In fact, you usually spent your October 31 in a very ordinary way and rarely wasted your time looking for some horror movies to celebrate the happy event...so, it was a pity that you ended up in a place that seemed to love this night a lot.

«There, it's the white house on the right.» Your mother pointed at an old-fashioned house, but which had undergone restoration work to become so pretty on the outside at the same time «But don't be fooled. I'm sure my mom left everything the same inside.»

You smiled when she said that and also at the idea of meeting your grandmother, because you were just a child when saw her last time and your mother spoke of her only a few times; anyway, you were sure she was a loving woman, as well as lonely after your grandfather's death.

Or that was what you believed, before an old woman went out on the doorstep with a clear frown on her forehead, definitely a normal welcome from that area...

«I see you in great shape...how are you, mom?» Your mother didn't notice that, or she simply pretended, when she got out of the car to go and hug her own mother «What? Not happy to see me after so long?!»

The older one returned the gesture, wrapping her daughter in the arms, but her eyes quickly caught up with the other two figures who were approaching from the sidewalk.

«Of course I'm happy, I've been waiting a long time for your visit, my dear.» She answered with a softer smile this time «And your daughter...how much she has grown, she's a beautiful girl now!»
