" I saw him today and I swear I froze. I was late to class." Sydney admitted, ashamed. Sam furrowed her brows as she sipped on her drink. "Syd, you have got to get over him. You know you can't let Ivan-" As she said his name he appeared out of the corner and smirked "Ladies," he bowed his head as he passed them and while this was happening, Sydney was holding her breath. When he was gone, she let out her breath and started to breathe normally again. Samantha shook her head. "You need to keep yourself occupied. Get your mind off Mr. Bradley, get a job or something." Sydney threw her head back and laughed "A job? Senior year is going to be hectic as is and you want me to get a job ?" Sam shrugged as she took another sip "Well, I of all people understand how time-consuming senior year will be, especially since we're going to college next year but with a job, you won't have time to think about Ivan, you'll be too busy." Finally when they reached the school steps, they sat down and texted their rides to come pick them up. "Just remember to choose a job that works for you and your schedule," she continued "I can almost guarantee you that with your schedule and a job you'll forget him in a week" Sydney paused as she considered this, then smirked. "Is that why you haven't been dating anyone recently? Too busy?" She nudged her and Sam laughed "No, I mean I have been busy, student council, volleyball practice, school paper and everything but that's not the reason, dating just isn't worth my time right now." Sydney made a face and replied sarcastically "Yeah, that's the reason."
After ten minutes, Samantha saw her ride pull up at the front of the school and quickly stood up "That's my ride, Syd, want us to drop you off?" Sam offered but Sydney quickly shook her head. "No, I actually have cheer practice, my ride will be here later but thanks," She stood up as well and swung her bag over her shoulder "I'll see you tomorrow ?" She smiled "Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow, bye!" Sam took off towards her car.
"I swear you're the only person she's kind to." A voice from behind Sydney said. Startled, she jumped at the sound then realized who it was when she turned around. "Christian, nice of you to eavesdrop on us."She replied. He let out a small chuckle and sat on Samantha's previous spot. "Wasn't eavesdropping, just happened to over hear your last conversation." He smirked as he watched Sam's car leave. Sydney sighed "Well, Christian, I'd love to stay and chat but I have to go and rehearse for the game next week, your game actually." He laughed once again. "Actually, the gym's closed for general cleaning so I guess you do have time to chat." He said triumphantly. She sighed again and put her bag down and sat beside him. "And what are we going to talk about?" He opened his mouth and closed it again, re-thinking what he was going to say. Then he just smiled. "I'm guessing you want to talk about someone named Samantha Eleanor foster." Sydney said. Christian paused then looked at her with a guilty look on his face but said nothing. "Chris, I think you've forgotten how smart I am and how obvious you are." Still speechless he just relaxed his shoulders and looked down. Frustrated by the silence, Sydney spoke again "Honestly, I'm surprised you're pursuing her now, with you as Mr. Popular and Sam as Ms. Popular throughout high school I'd thought you would've had her by now, but if you think Sam will be just another one of your conquests, think again." She fixed her bag and continued "I happen to know what she thinks of you, Christian and believe me it's not good." She stood up abruptly and took her bag and started walking away. Finally finding his voice, he said "Syd, wait-" Stopping in her tracks, she turned around. "Don't call me that, we are not friends." Standing up and taking a few steps closer to Sydney, he said jokingly"I thought you were the nice one, what have I ever done to you Sydney Steele ?" Taking a deep breath and walking towards him, close enough for them to be face to face, she replied " You think I don't know that you were the one who told Ivan that we had to do it because we've been together for so long?"She searched his eyes then went on " You should be thankful the whole school doesn't know or I would've killed you by now." Confused, he took her hand and dragged her behind the school steps for privacy " You really think I was the one who said that to Ivan?" Exhaling, she said "You're the quarterback, their leader, he wouldn't have gone to anyone else about this-" Interjecting he said "How do you know that it wasn't all Ivan's doing ?" Oh, how she fought the urge to slap him. "Because we were okay for nine months until-" Interrupting her again, Christian said "Is that why Samantha's so mean to me? Because she thought I-" Now Sydney was interrupting "Christian, Samantha is mean to everybody, don't think you're that special." Scratching his head and pacing the floor, he composed himself and pleaded "Could you please let her know that I didn't and never would do that to you or anyone else ?" Debating whether she should trust him, she found him to be sincere in his request and replied "Even if you did it or not, I still don't think she would go for you. I'm sorry. Now, if you'll excuse me, i have to go." Turning around, he stopped her again. "Wait, why wont she...?" She smiled at him then sighed "Look at you, you're the poster boy for bad choices. I guess you just don't meet her standards, which are pretty high. She needs someone who'll be good for her and I'm sorry you're not it." She shrugged and gave him an apologetic smile and left.
