Santana had really no idea that she might be one of those few odd people who suddenly obtain mystery relatives out of thin air one day. She had watched so many of her schoolmates and batchmates find missing sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, grandparents, even parents... you name it. She had shrugged it off, bored as ever, and perhaps at some point, even become too used to it.

Maybe that's why she didn't get too much of a shock when her abuela dropped it on her that she had a missing sister with a whole line of descendants down from her side... and the last one was currently Santana's age.

In simpler words, Santana had a cousin brother.

This had happened a few years ago, maybe four, when Santana was still busy with college and a hectic schedule, piled up with the stress of staying away from Brittany. She had plans to marry her, after all. When the news had reached her the first time, she didn't so much as flinch before she dismissed the thought and said that she would certainly make the efforts to meet him once she graduated.

Now here she was, suitcase in hand, waiting for Kurt to collect his luggage from the baggage claim at Kansas City International Airport. From the airport, they'd catch the bus, make a small pit stop in Keystone City, and finally arrive at their destination: Central City.

She was more than grateful that Kurt had agreed to accompany her. Not that she'd admit it. She was awkward with new people, and needed help. However, she found Rachel irritating, Mercedes overbearing, Tina a little too excited for her liking, and Blaine just smelt way too much of hair gel. No, Kurt really was the perfect fit to help build a bond.

"I'm all done!" Kurt smiled as he heaved his bag over his shoulder. Santana nodded and both of them made their way to their waiting bus. It wasn't going to be until evening that they reached her cousin...

While they were boarding, however, someone else happened to take the same bus, just a couple of passengers behind them. This man had to have the most terrible fashion sense ever. Santana could feel the bad clothing vibes as she turned around to find the hunched man. He was wearing baggy jeans, a hoodie, with the hood pulled over a baseball cap covering his face. There was no way she could even see any part of his face, so she guessed that he must be one hella depressed dude.

He got off along with them in Central City while the bus continued its trip on to Starling. But while they were going at a leisurely pace, he was in quite a hurry.

"Central City General, please! Make it quick!" he yelled at the cabbie who took off without a word. Santana shared a noncommittal shrug with a confused Kurt before hailing a taxi of their own.

They were finally knocking on the door of her cousin. Truly enough, the sun was fast disappearing behind the buildings, leaving a purple-orange sky in its wake.

A Latino opened the door. "Hey!" he grinned. "Santana, right? Who's this?" he gestured to her company. "I'm Kurt," Kurt held out his hand, which the host eagerly shook before inviting them inside.

"I'm Cisco," he introduced himself. "Cisco Ramon, I'm sort of a distant cousin. I work for STAR Labs."

Santana raised an eyebrow. "Wasn't the place shut down? Something about a freak accident, wasn't it?"

"Particle accelerator explosion," Cisco's face became grim and guilty. Kurt took pity. "I'm sure you couldn't have done anything more to prevent it. Don't blame yourself. Now, where do I keep these bags?"

Cisco's face lightened considerably. He pointed to a guest room just right of the drawing room. "It's really nice to have you guys here. Tell you what, we can stay up late tonight for a good Star Wars movie and we can all get to know one another over that time. If you want, you can tag along to my workplace tomorrow."

"Sounds like a plan," Santana smirked. She was already liking her geek cousin.

The next day, all three of them found themselves in front of the entrance to the Labs. Cisco turned to the visitors. "You've got to be extremely careful here, I gotta warn you. My boss, Dr. Wells is still stinging from the explosion, and creepy journalists often end up making their way inside..." he trailed off, mumbling something along the lines of 'why do I even bother with updating security'.

"But most importantly, Dr. Wells has taken in a patient from the explosion, a CSI who was struck by lightning, so you have to make as little noise as possible."

Both Santana and Kurt were taken aback. "Struck by lightning!" Santana exclaimed. "How did he survive that?"

Cisco shrugged. "Scientific miracle, I guess. The doctors weren't able to stop his heart's apparent flatlining and seizures, so we had him transported here. Figured we could take better care of him."

They made their way to the cortex of the Labs, Kurt eager to find this unfortunate young man and offer some of his prayers. He was absolutely sure that Santana shared his sentiments, if her expression was anything to go by.

But as they walked through the door, they were met with the same stranger on the bus. Only, his cap was on the ground, his hood flung off, and his face resting over his crossed arms as he rested his head on the patient's bed, snoring softly.

Sebastian Smythe.
