Thank God We Got Each Other

I remember when we were maybe 3 years old
Playin' in the shed house
Laughing, not a care in this whole world
Our whole world two block wide
5 years old skating 'round your driveway
Raining water balloons
Laughing, not a care in this whole world

You'd come running 'cross that street
Knock on our door
Say it's time for school
Girl Scout cookies too, thin mints please
Oh where did that time go
Take a nap next thing I know

High school we're grown
World's a whole lot bigger now
Next thing we know, drama's knocking
Moved a little away, one at mom one at dad
Need a ride hop in
Before I know it lights flashing
Call you with tears in my eyes saying "he's gone"
Hardly slept a wink, you're over before I know
I just remember crying and your comfort
Distract, fell asleep watching that movie you really wanted
Said it's fine, must have known I was hurting

Did you know?
How you rescued me
Darkest times, just one call
You were always there
Took a nap next thing I know

White dress, cap and gown
Quick selfie for the memory
College in the fall, I'm 18 now
Few more months and boxes packed
Road distance now 1084.3
States apart
Where did the days go?

Years clock on and on
Wasn't a straight road
Didn't care I wasn't either
Coming out was hard, but you were there
Accepting we're stuck together
Sure glad we are
Couldn't imagine a world without

23 now look
We whine and groan
Growing up sure does suck
You say he's the one, hope you fine one too
I'm hurting but you'll still there
Time and distance knows no bound
Can't separate us

Before we know we're two old grey women
Reliving on a life well lived
Looking back with smiles
Saying where did the time go
