Story by F/藤 on Pixiv. NOT ME. I just translated it. I tried to keep everything in tact, including the punctuation and tenses, as best I could without obstructing the flow of the story. Also. I'm not translating the word "baka." It sounds better than "stupid/idiot" in this story ig cuz it's Japanese lol.
Genre : hurt/comfort/romance
A building reduced to rubble. Billowing smoke and hungry flames. Boruto watches, motionless as he stares at the remains of the previously peaceful village of Konoha. Not too far away, he finds a body amidst the rubble, and his heart palpitates in his chest. Willing his trembling body to move, he nears their collapsed form. Lying there is none other than Uchiha Sarada.
Silently, Boruto crumbles, his knees giving out beneath him.
"Sara...da...?"
Reaching out his hand, he pulls her to his chest. Her body is chilled. An unpleasant sweat begins to run down his back. He could feel his heart rate rising.
"Sarada, hey... Sarada... Sarada!! Open your eyes... Please, I'm begging you! Open your eyes, ttebasa!!"
No matter how many times he calls her name, no matter how many times he begs, her eyes remain closed. In attempt to share his body heat with her, he pulls her close. The backs of his eyelids growing hot, his vision blurring.
"No... Sarada... Don't go... Don't leave me!"
The words tumble out of his mouth along with the tears in his eyes. He sobs as he holds her chilled corpse against him. If this is a nightmare, please, wake me up...
While he was wishing for that very thing...
--------
"...ii-chan... Onii-chan!"
"..?!"
Boruto regained consciousness and immediately shot into a sitting position. In front of him was the form of his younger sister, her eyes filled with worry.
"W... Wha...? Hima...?"
"What's wrong? Did you have a scary dream?"
It was then that Boruto realized he was still crying. He hurriedly wiped his tears away. Taking in the familiar scenery of his room, the reality of the situation set in; it was only a bad dream.
"Ha... What a dream..."
"Onii-chan... Are you ok?"
"I'm fine... Thanks for waking me up."
"Are you sure? You've been going on a lot of difficult missions lately... You must be tired..."
"I'm really ok-ttebasa! I just had a weird dream..."
"If that's all it was, then that's fine... Mom made breakfast, so hurry downstairs when you're ready!" Himawari's usual smile played on her face as she left the room, relief taking over her worried features.
After seeing her off, Boruto hung his feet over the edge of the bed and crumpled his bangs into his hand. The dream had been so vivid. Her body slowly getting colder. The feeling of the heated air around him. The smell of dilapidated buildings and dust.
"Dang it... This sucks..." (くそっ...最悪だ...kuso... saiakuda...)
He really didn't want to see that scene. When Sarada became the Hokage, he was going to support her. In order to do that, he needed to become stronger.
"...I swear I'll protect her."
Sarada was not just some weakling that needed to be protected. As her childhood friend and classmate, Boruto knew that better than anyone else. He grew up next to her, competing with her in strength and ability. Rumors spread through the village about how powerful she was.
