Halloween Night 2022
I hate Halloween.
Well... I don't normally hate Halloween, but this year I do.
My boyfriend of three years, Jake, decided that cheating on me would be "the best decision he's ever made," last week, meaning that now I'm alone for Halloween.
Luckily, my friend Rachel was throwing a party so I could at least take my mind off of the breakup for tonight. On the downside, Jake and I were supposed to be attending together, in matching costumes, and I hadn't had the time or energy to find a new one. So I was going as Sandy from Grease, without a Danny Zuko.
After work I headed over to Rachel's house at about 6 o'clock. I had promised to help her and her boyfriend Niall set up and get ready for the night. Taking an Uber to their place, the ride was pretty short since my apartment was only about 20 minutes away. It gave me no time to second guess staying home, wrapping up in a blanket and binge watching horror movies all nigh, in favor of coming to the party.
When I pulled up to their house the yard was already covered in decorations, Niall likes to go all out for the holidays, I made my way inside quickly, the front door already being unlocked. I'm greeted by Niall in the entryway, hanging up a banner that reads, "Happy Halloween", along with various bats and spider cutouts.
"Sierra you made it!" Niall shouts from atop the ladder he's standing on, "Rachel was starting to think you were gonna ditch us, but I knew you'd come," he smiles.
"Hey Niall," I smile and shake my head, "You were right and I guess a little socializing is better than rotting away in my bed all night."
"Exactly!" he smiles back, "plus it's Halloween, no better day to throw your worries out the window and pretend to be someone you're not for the night."
"Very true, Ni," I say, as Niall finally steps down from the ladder and wraps me in a hug. Him and Rachel have been so supportive this last week, they've been doing everything they can to try to take my mind off of Jake.
"Well, Rachel's upstairs and she's been going on and on about how you're the only one who'll be able to do her makeup right, so you better get up there and get started before the party starts without ya!" Niall says, now leading me towards the staircase so I can find Rachel.
"Alright," I laugh, "let me know if you need any help with those decorations." I offer as I make my way up the stairs.
Heading down the hall and into the master bedroom I walk through the open doors into the large ensuite bathroom, where I find Rachel sitting on the ground in front of a giant mirror, tying her hair up.
"Sierra! Oh my god, I wasn't sure if you were gonna make it! I'm so glad you're here," she gets up quickly, rushing over to give me the biggest hug.
The kind of hug I've needed so badly the last few days.
"Hi Rach," I embrace her, "Niall said you'd doubted me, but I needed to get out of the house anyway," I chuckle.
"Well good. Now sit down, I have zero clue what I'm doing and this Harley Quinn wants to look hot as fuck for her Joker," Rachel demands.
I playfully roll my eyes at her remark, taking my duffle bag off my shoulder. It contained my costume and the makeup and hair tools I needed to complete it. I tossed it to the side so I could sit on the floor in front of Rachel. She had been combing her hair up into two high pigtails to recreate Harley's iconic look. Rachel even went as far as buying some cheap, temporary hair spray dye to turn the ends of her blonde hair pink and blue.
