@Moon’s house
“Moon, please talk to me. I won’t tease you anymore. I’m sorry, okay?”, Munish apologized. But I wasn’t listening at all. Munish spoke further, “Remember Moon, you said you put the dress on, but couldn’t zip up. I think he saw nothing and was only trying to freak you out”.
“I hope so, Munish. Else, I might kill someone. He was damn rude and then offering to zip up my dress? He’s a crazy jerk!”, I sighed, recalling how hard he stared at me. Munish’s eyebrows stood up at what I had just said.
“Moon, men still do that favour. It’s no big deal. I find it cool. I haven’t seen a girl that doesn’t until I met you”, Munish said.
“What? Are you even listening to yourself? Is zipping up a female stranger’s dress a favour...?”, I paused.
“Oh, wait a minute! I think you’re sick”, I added, reaching out to touch her head. She had been saying a lot of nonsense and I needed to be sure she was okay.
“You believe I’m sick, Moon? Fine. Then, let’s tell your mum everything,” she smirked.
I took it as a joke until she was calling my mum upstairs.
“Mum Cassandra! Mum Cassandra!!”. She screamed out, but I covered her mouth.
“Please don’t, Munish. Have you gone mad? Mum will freak out, you know. She’s going to be like; are you crazy, Moon? You always make the silliest mistakes. He saw you naked. What have you done, you silly girl? Then, she’ll pull my ears,” I cried.
“Interesting!”. Munish burst into laughter when she asked if mum was going to do that. I rolled my eyes over in annoyance.
“C’mon! I was only teasing. I promise, I won’t tell mum, okay?”, she assured me. I nodded in affirmation.
“I will leave for school tomorrow,” I blurted out.
“It’s sad that I can’t go with you. I’m going to miss you. You are leaving with no one around to tease and make funny faces at, like I always do”, she said with a sad face.
I leaned on her left shoulder. “I will also miss you too, Munish. It will be my responsibility to call you often. Once I’m back, I promise to give you the full details of my life over there. Don’t be sad, alright?”, I said, trying to cheer her up.
A smile lit up her face. “Okay, Moon. Now, listen to me. Don’t go there shouting at boys. You scare them away by doing so”, Munish advised, and we exploded into a thunderous laughter.
When the laughter subsided, I spoke up. “Since boys are the problem, I won’t shout at them. Satisfied?”, I asked.
“You know that can’t even happen in your next life”, she teased. Munish had always been hilarious. One would look at her and assume she was foolish, but she’s precious and super lively to be with.
“Silly girls! Stop chatting and come down for desserts. I have baked the snacks for you both”, mum’s voice echoed from downstairs.
“Okay, mum. We are on our way”, we chorused and giggled, making our way to join mum in the dining room.
...
“This looks yummy, mum Cassandra. Chocolate cake is my fave”, Munish said, licking her lips in a way that made mum laugh.
“Really, Munish? You are a silly girl”, mum chuckled. Mum was fond of using the word ‘silly’.
“My child, here is yours. She shoved a slice of the cake at Munish and me.
“Thanks mum!”, we both chorused again and laughed. Mum smiled and took a seat next to me.
“Moon, are you are in my head?”, Munish asked.
I shook my head in disagreement. “No, Munish. You are in my head”, I said, making everyone laugh out loud. Mum was right. We were both silly.
“Precious moments, everyone. I insist we should take a selfie”, I took up my selfie stick, which was handy. I captured the funny faces we all made. Striking five more poses, and that was it. I was happy with the way we laughed. This was what I called family.
“An extra flavoured cookies, girls”, mum said, carrying a tray out of the oven. The delicious aroma filled my nose, making my tummy grumble.
“Yummy!”, we both shouted.
“You are the best chef, mum. I’m going to miss your delicious foods while I’m away”, I said, almost crying.
“I’m always here for you, Moon”, mum assured, pecking my forehead.
“Awwn”, Munish purred.
“Shh! Don’t be jealous, Munish”, I blushed at mum’s affection. Munish chuckled, knowing I was only joking.
“Do you need ice cream, girls?”, mum asked. “Yes, please. You are amazing us with your advanced baking skills”, I said, taking a hungry bite from the cookie in my hand. Since dad passed away, we had made ourselves a happy family, whichever way we could.
“Thanks, Moon. I will go get ice cream, now”, mum said and stepped out. It was surprising to us as mum came back with a bucket of banana ice cream; my best flavor.
“Mum, all this for us?”, I asked, astonished.
“This feeling is Heaven on Earth”, Munish said and we laughed.
