The walk back to their base was short, but not short enough to avoid the awkward silence between you and Levi.It was clear he didn't trust you. That much was obvious by the way he walked behind you as if to make sure you weren't going to make a move at any minute.
Erwin and Hange filled you in on some details about what the base was like and who you'd meet there. Well, Hange did most of the talking, Erwin just nodded along and added in small bits of confirmation to what they said.
"We call it Survey Corps because our goal is to slowly take back sections of the city and eventually make it a safe zone for others." They explained, walking backwards next to Erwin.
"You'll have to be assigned certain tasks to help out with things, just stuff like watch shifts, cleaning duty, cooking, and supply runs but everyone rotates so don't worry about getting stuck on a specific one."
At this Erwin interjects, "We usually only put our best on supply runs, those most likely to make it back in one piece. They can be dangerous trips since we usually scout out areas we haven't cleared out yet."
Nodding vigorously at this Hange jumps back in, " You're definitely going to be one of our best though so you'll get to go! Plus having a doctor around will make the runs go smoother." A sudden shine from their glasses clovers their eyes as they continue. "If you're interested, you could even start helping me in some of my experiments on-"
"She's not interested in participating in whatever dangerous shit you've got planned" Levi says, cutting Hange off.
Your retort comes instantly, "Maybe I am. Not all of us spend our time glaring at others."
"If you want to get yourself killed then have at it. That's just one less brat to feed and waste supplies on." He calmly fumes back earning a scowl from you at the word brat.
"Don't pay Levi any mind." Says Hange, quickly picking up on the tension between you and Levi. "He calls everyone back at base brats."
"That's because they are. Just a bunch of children that like to get into trouble." Levi grumbles from behind you.
"Better than being a grumpy old man" you mumble to yourself but clearly not quiet enough cause Hange bursts out laughing and you think you might even saw Erwin smirk a bit. Levi looks ready to kill. His hair is casting a dark shawdow across his face and he's giving off an aura that screams 'run'.
You were preparing to take off when Erwin comes to a stop and you end up walking straight into his back. Steping away and saying a quick apology, you look up to see why he stopped.
"This is it." Erwin says, simple and to the point.
You notice the sign on the two story building that reads 'Reeves Storage Units' in big lettering. Next you take in the rows of storage units lined up behind the building. There's more than you can count stretching for what seems forever. The whole thing seems to be fenced in too by a large chain link fence connected to a rolling gate as an entrance. It's smart, and practical, and a better idea for a base than anything you could ever come up with.
"Wow" you say out loud, it being the only thing running through your head at the moment.
"Right? She's a beauty alright, and the best part is that everyone gets their own space!" Hange exclaims throwing their arms in the air.
Your own space sounds perfect. You were expecting to have to sleep on the floor or something next to people that probably smelled or snored. This is definitely a pleasant surprise.
Standing on the inside of the gate are two people holding what looked like makeshift spears. Spotting your little group approaching the gate they perk up and instantly wave a green cloth of some sort in the air. You don't have long to ponder about what it's for cause Hange pulls out a similar piece from their jacket and waves it back. This seems to make the two figures spring into action as they start unchaining the gate and rolling it open.
