As the sun rose on the city of Detroit, as the time hit 7:15 am, Anna's alarm clock started buzzing.
With a tired groan, she reached over and smacked the button, shutting off the terrible noise.
She sat up and rubbed her sleepy eyes.
*I wish mom and dad were here so they could do this themselves." She thought.
She hopped out of her bed and walked out of her room, heading towards the kitchen.
"Get up monkeys! Breakfast! Seven fifteen! Up and at em!" She yelled through the house.
She knew that wasn't going to wake her siblings, so she started the coffee pot and headed to her sister, Lauren's room.
She opened Lauren's door, seeing that she was sleeping peacefully on her bed while holding a Stephen King book.
"Hey, future psycho. Time to wake up. Gotta get ready to go to school."
She said as she shook the thirteen year old on the shoulder, earning an irritated grunt.
Once Lauren was out of bed, she went upstairs to her brother's room.
"Alexander! Wakey! Wakey! Eggs and bakey!"
She yelled as she opened his door.
Judging from seeing him sleeping next to his television, he was up playing video games all night.
"Come on man! Come on! Time to get up! Don't make me come back up here with cold water again!"
She shuts his door, and heads downstairs to the kitchen to cook some breakfast for them.
Lauren's door opens and she walks out, fiddling with a new switchblade she stole after getting her old one confiscated at school.
Anne rolls her eyes and sighs.
"You are not taking that with you. Oh hell no Lori. You almost got me thrown in jail last time." She told her before taking a sip of her coffee.
Lauren just chuckled and flipped the blade out.
"Pretty sure I could just pick the lock to your cell with it, if you did."
Anna smiles fakely and holds her hand out.
Lauren growls and rolls her eyes before placing the knife in her older sisters hand.
"Thank you future Dahmer." Anne said.
She flips the pancakes on the skillet, before yelling at Alex to hurry up and get downstairs, earning an annoyed "I'm coming!" from the ten year old.
He walked downstairs and sat at the table with Lori.
"Ew, you stink! Anna, can you tell him that he has to shower before breakfast!" Lori exclaimed while pointing at Alex.
Alex glared at his sister.
"Oh go eat a heart, Dahmer!" He said as he threw a spoon at her.
"Hey! Stop it you two! Let's have one morning where you two aren't fighting. I would like to keep you both in one piece when mom and dad come back in a few months." Anne scolded.
Just then the door opened and in walked Liona, the eldest of them all, from an all night shift at the bar where she worked.
"Breakfast?" Anne offered.
Lee smiles and put her coat on the rack.
"No thanks. I'm gonna shower and get some sleep. Last night was hectic."
She then turned to Anne real fast.
"Oh, guess who's back in town. You're going to love this."
Anne could tell by the look on her sister's face that she did something sneaky.
"Oh God. Who is it, and what did you do?" She knew she would regret asking that.
Lee smirked maliciously.
"Jack Mercer. Remember him? The boy who you always defended at school."
Anne was kind of taken aback by her sister's words.
"Really? Wow, he's been gone for a while. He probably doesn't even remember who I am." She said as she handed plates to the kids.
"Oh, but he does! He was at the bar last night. He remembered me, and started asking all kinds of questions about you! I think he likes you, and not in a friend way." Lee smiled.
Anne was partially intrigued now.
"What was he asking? If I'm still the weird witchy girl that loves black cats?"
Lee laughed a bit, then stood at the kitchen counter next to Anne.
"No. He asked if you were single, how you've been doing, and if you have been busy lately."
Anne was surprised. Jack was asking if she was single?
She scoffed and rolled her eyes.
"A boy like him has way better things to do than hang out with someone like me. He'd be better off finding another girl." It hurt Anne to say that, but she didn't know how to get a boyfriend, let alone keep one.
Lee giggled.
"You may get mad at me for this, but I told him to come by this evening and see if you wanted to go out with him."
Anne's eyes went wide.
"NO YOU DID NOT! PLEASE TELL ME YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS LIONA!" She cried.
Lee shrugged.
"I'm serious as a heart attack. Anna, you need to go out and do things. You are twenty years old and still a virgin. It's time for you to spread your wings. I only did it because I care about you. I don't want you to end up lonely. And you're always cooped up in the house, it would do you good to go out." Lee explained as she headed up the stairs.
"You two would make a cute couple!" She yelled before going into her room.
Anna shook her head, and got the kid's backpacks ready.
"Alright kiddos. Get your coats on, we're leaving for school in ten minutes."
As she was getting her shoes on, Lauren walked up to her.
"If you guys do become a couple, are gonna leave too?" She asked.
Anne was shocked at Lori's question.
"What?! No! Absolutely not! You kids are my life. If I were to leave, I wouldn't go very far. And I would see you everyday. I'm not gonna leave yall. I wouldn't do that. I promise." She said as she hugged her little sister.
"Now get your coat and shoes on. We're gonna be late for school."
Lauren and Alex both get ready, and get inside Anne's car.
As she was driving, Anne had only one thing on her mind.

"Would Jack really want someone like me as a girlfriend?"
