A chill ran through his body in the early hours of the morning. The sky was still dark, painted in a deep blue, and the unknown room was merely illuminated by the moon. Disoriented as he was, he rubbed his eyes and tried to wake up fully. He was alone, lying in absolute silence, so why was he awake?
Used to being roused from sleep from the constant noises of the city, the silence that surrounded him was somehow deafening, it was something new and strange. Only the rustling of the leaves could be heard, and now and then the call of a nocturnal animal.
It was a big contrast to the distant roar of cars, the squeak of the trains, barking dogs from time to time, sirens, some partying people passing by - the sounds he was so used to from the last couple of years. It was peaceful and quiet, unusually quiet, and something was missing, but it wasn't the city noises he was so familiar with. It was something else, way more important, he couldn't quite name yet.
Looking around, he noticed the tangled bed sheets and spotted some clothes lying on the floor, marking a trail from the door to the bed. Gradually, vague memories of the previous night came back to him and brought a dreamy smile to his face. He gently stroked the empty side of the bed and could feel the warmth that still lingered within. It was her body heat, her breath, her heartbeat that was missing. Where was she? Why was the bed empty?
He searched for his shirt but couldn't find it, so he only grabbed his sweatpants and headed towards the door.
As he slowly entered the hallway, careful not to bump into anything, he heard the tap in the kitchen and followed the sound to find her standing at the sink with a glass of water in front of her, looking out the window.
He stopped a moment to take her in, still not able to process his luck. She was there, in front of him, barely covered by his missing shirt, and it was the most incredible thing he had ever seen. How lucky can one actually be? She wanted him near. In her life. In her home. In her bed. In her... - he was sure he was the luckiest man alive.
He slowly approached her with a smile on his lips, caressing her sides with the tips of his fingers and gently hugging her from behind. He let his hands rest on her hips while snuggling up to her with his lips barely touching her neck.
'There is my shirt...' his soft breath brushed her skin, causing goosebumps to rise. '...oops...what are you going to do now, huh?' he could hear her amused grin. Fumbling with the hem of HIS shirt as if to lift it from her body, he softly replied 'Well...maybe I should get it back...'. which made her giggle quietly. 'Mh-hmm...maybe you should...but it smells so good like you...' and with that she held onto it.
He let go of the fabric and curled his hands around her waist, sneaking under the shirt and caressing her belly. 'You know what else smells like me?'
'Y-yes...the bed!' she exclaimed, letting go of the shirt to put her hands on his. Not able to supress an amused snort, he hugged her waist tightly while pulling her as close as possible. 'Not exactly what I meant, but yeah, the bed...that's also a good idea...'
'So what did you mean, my love?' she reached with her hand behind, offering loving scratches on his head. 'Me, silly. I meant me.' he hummed while leaning into her hand, enjoying the caresses.
At that she turned her head to face him with a mischivious smile. 'You've got a point there. So should I wrap you around me or...' she asked innocently while grabbing one of his arms and pulling it tighter around her body.
'Sure, why not. You already wrapped me around your finger...wouldn't make a big difference anymore...' he shrugged, planting a soft kiss on her shoulder and intertwining their fingers.
Letting out a content humming she snuggled into his arms again and enjoyed the warmth of his bare chest against her back. Encouraged by her reactions to his touch he buried his nose into her hair and inhaled deeply, taking in her intoxicating scent. He gently kissed the tip of her ear before resting his head on her shoulder again, causing shivers to run through her body as she could feel his soft lips on her neck.
Her silky skin was covered in goosebumps caused by his warm fingers which traveled along her bare stomach under the shirt. 'Why weren't you in bed? It was so empty without you...' his breath caressed her ear. 'I couldn't sleep anymore and was a bit thirsty. And since I was already awake anyway, I thought I could watch the sunrise. The sunrises out here are truly beautiful, you know...'
He never had the time to watch and enjoy a sunrise before. He was always on the run, always too busy, always too stressed...and always alone. But now, here, with the most incredible being by his side, his love, his heart...he wanted to enjoy this life to the fullest. And all the small things that he never had time for before, all those precious little moments, he wanted to experience and feel them all.
With eyes full of hope and heart pounding with joy, he pulled her as close as he could, kissed her cheek, and spoke with so much love in his voice that it sent shivers down her spine.
'Well, since I'm awake now...we could watch it together?'
