DAY TWO
"So today, we are going to tour the high school. You have a week to enroll so don't worry about anything else other than that right now. They've had your transcripts for a while now so all we need to do is take the tour and settle in." I nodded, trying not to show the nerves that were prickling across my skin at the mere thought of starting another school in the fall, but I was mostly caught up. I loved to read, so I was adept at English, and okay at math.
"Do you have to be in uniform?" I sighed, eyeing their badges and nine millimeters. I'd break someone's jaw if they even looked at two women in a marriage differently, but I'd prefer not to be the social pariah of the school being seen with two officers bringing me in.
Carina smiled. "I'm sorry little one but yes, we have a meet and greet at the precinct after this and they're doing a press release of their two new officers."
I felt bad, knowing this was an exciting time for them and I was being whiney about it. I shrugged it off with a small smile. "Okay no worries, can I come with you to the meet and greet?"
"Of course, I figured we could grab some lunch later. We don't officially start until tomorrow, so we have some time to kill." Mom pitched in, running her hand over my hair but I twitched away, nervous and uncomfortable. I'd traded in my sweats for some ripped jeans and a black Game of Thrones pull over.
They let me be for a while and I sighed, trying to ready myself for this inevitable shit show. Sliding my checkered vans on my feet, I combed a hand through my hair and decided the gods were being nice to me today as it fell like red silk waves around my shoulders. I didn't wear any makeup, and for a second I actually admired the way I looked. Shouldering my purse, I took one last look around the room before I headed down stairs and plopped into the car, trying to calm my nerves as we took off. The school was only ten minutes away, which was a plus I suppose.
When we pulled up, everyone was in class, a small reprieve but I knew eventually class would end and I'd be the talk of the school. It was a relatively nice looking place, everything was neat and cute, decorated with a seaside vibe and ocean waves along the hallways. I have to admit I did kinda love it. We checked in at the front office and the nice lady there said Principal Dane would be in shortly.
I drummed my fingers on the table, nearly jumping out of the skin when the bell rang. Not a moment later a freakishly tall but insanely beautiful woman walked into the office. She wore a mauve pantsuit, complete with six inch heels and long black hair. She spoke a few words to the front desk and turned around, severe grey eyes and a strong boned complexion greeted us. She smiled, though since I'd already cooked up the fact that she was a hard-ass, it didn't reach her eyes.
"Welcome to IIwaco High. It's a pleasure to have you joining us, Kelsey. And thank you, moms, for bringing her in on such short notice for a tour." She shook their hands.
"Please, we will discuss the particulars in my office and then I'll have a student give you a tour while your Moms and I finish up some paperwork."
Twenty minutes later I was sitting outside the office waiting for whoever the lucky soul is that had to show me around. I didn't have to wait long, as a relitively cute boy pounded down the stairs towards me. I immediately liked his floppy blonde curls and admired his muscular physique. His brown eyes were kind, and a cheesy grin lit up his face when he stopped beside me.
