I thought that there would be butterflies, Beautiful flowers, With trees blowing ever so slightly in the wind. Oh, how I was so, very wrong..

Sitting out on a sunny day was never for me. Though my friend, Parker, and I, would go and sit out on sunny days to fish and build new structures. We ran an abandoned area filled to the brim with trees. Although after a while, we got quite tired of them, and so we cut them down. This little place, this..was our...escape? A random place in the middle of the forest? Weird. But of course, before Parker, there was Jayden.

He was always making these stupid jokes. And he used the same jokes. Over and over and over again. He was horrible at building. And he never seemed to take a hint. I didn't like him, No one did. He only cared about himself. I honestly would've fed him to the wolves, if it wasn't for his usefulness. I only kept him around because, well, to put it simply, there wasn't anyone else. Until there was.

Bushes and trees covered the land, making it hard to see things far in the distance. Furthermore, there were tons of blood thirsty wolves that roamed around these parts. Hiding themselves within the bushes, waiting for a naive victim to waltz past. So oftentimes, you'll see a pair of eyes waiting for you in the bushes. I wasn't dumb enough to fall for that though. Usually, if I saw a pair of eyes, I immediately assumed it was a wolf, having slain many, I would know. But these eyes were different. Now I find myself staring back at another human through the bushes.

I quickly drew my sword from my belt and slashed through the bushes. A rustling sound came from within, as the boy fell back, and out of the bushes. I threw the tip of my sword to his neck, almost digging into his flesh.

His looks were easy to remember. Dirty blonde hair, Green eyes, Semi-pale skin, and a frightened look on his face. And his clothes, worn out and ripped, aged and stained. He had no armor. Though, this wasn't surprising.

“Not bad for a creep. Where did you come from? and who sent you here?”

“No! you've got it all wrong! I wasn't sent by anyone. And I'm not a creep, I swear! I've been searching for human life for days.” He said, his voice quivering.

“And why should I trust you? trust that you won't turn your back and try to kill me?”

“You shouldn't. But I'm willing to do almost anything to prove myself. I haven't seen another person in almost three years.. it's hard out there..” He looked down, seemed sad about something.

I didn't want to leave him there. He seemed honest and trustworthy. It's hard to trust people. But there was something in his voice that seemed honest. I was hesitant, but I gave in.

“Follow me. You can stay here, but only for a few weeks.”

He nodded his head in agreement. At least, as much as he could without my sword caving into his throat. I lowered my sword, but I kept it at my side. I held my hand out to help him back to his feet.

“And who's this?” A very familiar voice said. A boy with blonde hair, blue eyes, and that annoying smirk on his face, walked out from the castle.

I looked at the boy, waiting for her response. To be fair, I hadn't asked for his name yet.

“Uhm,” He hesitated. “My name is Parker.”

“I'm Jayden.” He said in response.

I looked at him. “Parker is going to be staying with us for a few weeks. Just until he can get back on his feet.” I glared back at Parker, as if I was talking to him as well.

Jayden smiled at him, seemingly trying to make himself appear charming.

“He wasn't sent here was he? He's not one of them crazies?” He joked.

“No, Jayden. I'm sure he's not.”

As annoying as he was, I was expecting him to be a lot more angered with my decision, but he seemed okay with it. I don't usually let outsiders in, as Jayden and I are pretty much criminals, and we try to keep this place secret. But there was something about him. Something I could trust. Something that told me he was different.
