"What?"
I take my earphones off, caught off guard and wide-eyed. I put my laptop on the side to give her my full attention, sure I have misunderstood Hayley's words.
We are sitting on the bed of this room we're stuck in because of the bad weather. I've been trying to work on some music while she was focused on scribbling something on her journal, so I wasn't expecting this sudden demand. At all.
I mean, it can't be. It just can't, can it?
This must be a dream or something. I've wanted for this to happen for so long, even pictured the whole situation in my head a million times, excited and scared at the same time of the outcome. But I would have never imagined for it to go like this.
"You heard me."
"I must've got it wrong, though. Because there's no way you really want to-"
"I do!"
I rise my eyebrow. "Every time I tried to bring it up, you told me it's too risky and-"
"Yes, I know I did," she interrupts me, glaring at my hesitation, "but it's something special. You know why I wanted to wait, and I feel it's the right time for us to do this! Besides, you said you wanted it too!"
Yeah, can't deny that. It is definitely scary, and I am already nervous just thinking that we could possibly ruin it in any way, but...
"Yeah, I mean, if you're so sure, we can give it a try."
"Yay!" she stars jumping on the bed in excitement, before calming down and coming closer to me. "Let's do it!"
"Right now?" My eyes widen at her unexpected request. I didn't think she meant immediately.
"I don't see why we should wait any more. We've waited enough."
Hayley looks determined, although I can say she's a bit nervous as well.
I give her a reassuring smile.
"Ok, let's do it, then."
I reach behind me, but I change my mind mid-movement, going back to her to tuck a soft strand of orange hair behind her ear. I let my hand linger on her warm cheek, then give in and close the distance between us for a short, sweet kiss on her lovely lips.
She closes her eyes, savoring the moment for a bit more while I go back to my previous intent.
I grab my acoustic guitar positioning it on my leg, without leaving the bed we're still on.
"Are you sure you want-"
"Taylor, for the last time, I'm sure! The time is right. I do want to sing 'All I wanted'!" she replies, rolling her eyes and shoving me, making me laugh. "I feel I can give it justice now. It's a special song for the two of us, for many, many reasons. I think it's the perfect moment for us to play it."
I give her a smile, nodding.
"Ok, let's do it."
