Let Go

She never realized it before, but the sea beneath the waves was mesmeric. It was vast, in a frightening way but also extremely beautiful. Samira stared in awe at the dark abyss outside the porthole in the hall; the lights on the sub gave her little to work with but the changing shades of blue were enough to keep her attention.

I'd rather think about this than the events yet to come.

Meaning her long-awaited reunion with her family.

Ever since the sub was repaired all Samira could think about was this. She didn't want to go home, but something told her to trust Law and that was what she was going to do. Still, so much had gone passed her notice; the little things.

Like the sea deep beneath the ocean.

How many times had she walked past this same porthole and not looked out of it? Too damn many. And today may be her last chance. Tears filled her sad eyes.

I'm going to miss this. And them. And even--

"What are you doing?"

Samira lurched in fright and looked over her shoulder at the curious polar bear standing behind her. She took an uneasy breath and put her hand over her chest.

"You scared me, Bepo."

"I'm sorry," he uttered as he bowed his head in shame.

Samira brought up her hands in protest. She forgot how sensitive he was.

"There's nothing to be sorry about. You just caught me off guard is all. I was too focused on the ocean."

Bepo hummed and peeked out the port hole. Was there something out there?

"I don't see anything."

"There isn't anything in particular out there," Samira admitted with a snort. "I just like the way the ocean looks beneath the waves."

Her face heated up in embarrassment.

"I'm sorry. It sounds ignorant saying it out loud. I just never took the time to admire it until now."

Now that she was going home.

"I see it every day in the control room," Bepo mentioned as he scratched his head. He wasn't sure, but he reckoned that Samira was just upset. He understood her pain. The idea of her leaving upset him too. But what could he do?

"I... have a copy of Princess Uta's 'New Genesis' solo song," he blurted out suddenly, hoping to redirect her thoughts.

It seemed to work for now. Samira smiled widely and her eyes lit up in excitement.

"I'd love to hear it. Perhaps Law will let us blare it over the intercom system when he wakes up."

Bepo hummed.

"He's working at the moment in his room, but maybe later. I'm a big fan."

"He's still awake?" Samira asked in shock.

The bear shook his head. He was used to his captain going days without sleep, but even he was worried about him as of late. Law was planning something extreme and though the crew knew a little about it, he wasn't sure what the man was doing. But one thing was certain, Bepo trusted him.

"I don't believe this," Samira uttered in annoyance.

The man was reckless with himself. She knew that she should let it go; it was honestly none of her business, but she couldn't stand seeing him like this. It angered her to no end.

"We'll have to do a rain check on the song. Please excuse me."

Bepo hummed watching Samira as she stormed by. Perhaps he should not have told her that Law was awake. This wasn't going to end well for her, or the stoic man.
