"Go easy on her, girls!" I jumped up as my door got thrown open "15 minutes outside time" I nodded

I got up and tied on my shoes. I walked outside to see the line being formed. I just joined in because I was confused about what was going on. I looked around

"No." they began circling around me. "no, no, no, no!" I said to myself.

when I had prepared myself to fight, they put their hands on their ears.

I also joined... might as well do it too

what the fuck is going on here-

"AHHH!"

I spun around to the noise. the brick wall that surrounded the prison was blown up. who would do such a thing.... oh. oh-

"LET'S GO, HOLMES!" I sprinted for the hole and jumped onto where she pointed

"thank you for getting me out-" I turned around "Mom?" I smiled

"'Tis I."

"Oh, it is good to see you!" I hugged her as the carriage started

"hang on! They're onto us!" we heard from the outside

"so what's going on with you?"

"Alright, let me tell you-"

after one crying fit, two bombs, the start of a panic attack, and a whine about Sherlock; I was finally done

"and now, all I've done is stirred up a hornet's nest. I don't even know if I'm onto something.

"you are." my mom said, dropping another bomb "LEFT! Why else would they try and silence you?"

"this match factory is a major success. in two years, they doubled in profits!"

"drugs?" My mom asked. I shook my head

"no, that was last month's case" she nodded "no, a lot of girls are dying from... typhus. but I don't buy it"

"Typhus?"

"yes. it's a loose thread. I need to pull at it. but the last time I did that, the thread... died" my mom looked at me with sad eyes "she was nineteen, mom... and really pretty"

"I'm sorry, Joey. that happens sometimes-"

"Here they come! Brace yourselves!"

"and the things about these girls is that... We know about these factories. but girls like Sarah Chapman, they're expendable. if they go missing or die, no one cares." my mom nodded

"so why do they care about this girl? what does she know?" she asked

"She stole something. Some papers."

"AHA! So what's she gonna do with them? What's her plan, Jos?"

"She's not a thief. She's not a blackmailer. She is a troublemaker. She knows something, and that is infinitely more dangerous." my mom smiled

"oh! my little gossiper!" I rolled my eyes.

and then... the worst-case scenario happened

"AHHHH!" the had car flipped over

"EVERYONE OUT!" Edith screamed. we sprinted out, trying to get the horses untied

"He's coming!" My mother yelled

"Glory be." Grail jumped off his horse.

"crap!" I said.

"It's the Holy Trinity. I'll make commissioner for this." I took a deep breath and looked at my mother and Edith. I huddled with them and whispered

"If I'm going to get taken... I'm going to die fighting" my mom nodded. we all readied ourselves

"NOW!"

================================================

"I quite enjoyed that" I said, jumping up and down

"Hm. You enjoy everything. It's most irritating."

"Come on, this way. So, um, how's that useless boy of yours? I hear he's doing good work." I smiled

"He is not "My boy"." I huffed out

"you know, I sometimes think I brought you up to be too independent." I laughed

"Mum!"

"You, Enola, Sherlock, Mycroft. Strong, formidable, individual children, but, well, perhaps a little lonely. You're doing very well on your own, Josie. But with others, you could be magnificent."

"Come on. She should go. We'll put them off her scent." I nodded. I stood in front of them

" if I ever get condemned for murder again, I'll give you a shout." they laughed "thank you, Edith" I hugged her "goodbye, mum"  hugged her

                                       ======================================

I had run to their home. the three girls. one missing, one dead, and one too young to understand.

she started the pack her things. she was moving to her friend's home. there was a free bed since another girl had died from Typhus

I looked around the room and saw different dead plants. there were pieces of matches in them. One has red, and one has white in it.

"The matches you make, when did they change from red to white?" I asked

"I dunno. Around two years ago." She explained in between folding her clothes

"From black to red to white" I thought to myself. "my god"
