The Puzzle Is Complete
It had been 18 months since Sarah walked onto the stage in Glasgow to surprise Shane by singing What Makes a Man, albeit a tweaked version, but that was the moment their life together began and now here they were snuggled up on the couch under a big warm blanket, in front of the roaring fire drinking hot chocolate whilst watching one of the many Christmas films that were on TV, well it was Christmas Eve after all.
Sarah looked at Shane as he laughed at the movie and she felt such a rush of love, she knew he would love the present she had for him. It was unique and very special, something she knew he had wanted for a long time now.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Shane said noticing Sarah was in a world of her own. "Sorry, I was just thinking about tomorrow. It is going to be an amazing Christmas this year, surrounded by our friends and family. I am so excited." She replied. Shane pulled her closer, kissing her head. Sarah turned back to the film as did Shane but his thoughts were elsewhere. Looking at the Christmas tree, at the very spot he had hidden her main present amongst the branches, he felt tears in his eyes knowing that tomorrow his dream might just become reality once again.
...
"Baby wake up, it's Christmas morning and I want to give you your presents come on" Shane was shouting, pretty much bouncing on the bed to wake up her up. "urgh ok I am coming" Sarah said laughing. Shane was such a child when it came to Christmas. "you go for a shower and get dressed and I will start on breakfast" with that Shane ran downstairs to the kitchen. As she showered she wondered why he was more excited that normal. She shrugged it off, because she was just as excited about giving him his gift.
When she walked into the kitchen, she was greeted with the amazing smell of freshly brewed coffee, and a fresh toast with honey, her favourite. "This looks really good, thank you baby" she walked over to Shane and gave him a kiss. His present tucked inside her long sleeve. Shane could not stop smiling during breakfast, and Sarah noticed how nervous he looked but she assumed it was down to having to cook a massive Christmas feast for everyone who were arriving in a matter of hours.
"I know it's cold outside and it is Christmas day but I think there is a letter out in the mailbox, would you mind collecting it babe?" Shane asked her. "um yeah ok" she was confused, why would there be a letter there today? There were no deliveries. She put on her shoes and ran outside. "oh he is right" she said to herself. It was addressed to her, confused she opened it and recognised the writing right away. It was Shane's.
"My darling Sarah, to find your main present, you need to follow the clues I have hidden around our house, at the end you will find the gift. I love you have fun. S x" Sarah clapped with excitement and headed back inside. The first clue said "This is a place you lay your head and dream wonderful dreams" She ran up to their bedroom and sure enough sitting on the bed was another envelope. The next room was the library and then the games room, the message read "Where the lights twinkle, and the tinsel sparkles you will find your gift" she ran down to the living room where the Christmas tree stood. She stopped suddenly when she saw Shane standing there, dressed in the outfit he wore the night she walked onto stage to sing to him, to win him back.
Shane dropped down onto one knee "Sarah, you came into my life years ago and I loved you the moment I saw you, the day I lost you broke my heart but just 18 months ago you declared how much you loved me by walking onto the stage and singing in front of thousands and that is when I knew I was right, you were everything I needed. Today it is my turn to declare my love to you. It would mean the world to me, and more, if you agreed. Sarah, will you marry me?" Sarah burst into tears, "yes oh god yes Shane of course I will marry you" Shane placed the gorgeous solitaire diamond ring onto her finger, stood up and hugged a very emotional Sarah. "I love you so much baby" he said. "I love you too" Shane noticed something strange poking out of her sleeve. "Eh, what is that?" he asked. "Your present. Can you sit down so I can give you it please?"
Shane sat on the couch, confused but excited as she pulled out a long black box with a red bow on top. "This gift is very unique, you won't be able to find it anywhere else and I know how much you have wanted this gift so here you are my darling Shane, Merry Christmas" Sarah handed Shane the box. He opened it and looked at the contents of the box. "Are you serious? Is this what I think it is?" He asked with a look of utter shock and surprise "Yes Shane it is" she smiled as she saw tears in his eyes and a smile creep across his face. "IM GOING TO BE A DAD" he shouted. He dropped to his knees once more and that is when he noticed the very slight bump under Sarah's top. Kissing the bump, he said "I'm your Daddy and I am going to love you so so much" he stood up and kissed her "Thank you, you have given me everything I have wanted and needed in life"
"The puzzle really is complete" Sarah said. "Well not quite" Shane replied. Sarah was confused. Just as she was going to ask what he meant, someone knocked on the door. Shane answered it and in walked her sister Louise with all sorts of bags and what looked like a makeup box. "Hi sis, let's get you ready" she said as she grabbed her hand and dragged her upstairs.
"Right, hair and makeup are done, now I don't want you crying when you see the next thing you need to put on ok?" Sarah nodded, still confused. Louise opened up the long black bag she had been carrying and took out the most gorgeous long, white dress which was covered in beautiful diamantes and crystals. "Read this" Louise said "Sarah, if you are reading this, it means you agreed to become my wife. I had this dress made especially for you to wear today. That night on stage you wore the black version of this dress, well today darling, you will be wearing the white one, on this our wedding day" Sarah looked at her sister "Today? I am getting married today?" Louise nodded. Sarah took the dress and slipped it on. She walked over the long mirror in her bedroom and looked at her reflection as Louise placed a diamond tiara on her head. There was a knock on the bedroom door, it was David, their dad. "Are you ready?" he asked. Sarah could only nod, she had no words she was stunned Shane had arranged all of this. "Where am I getting married though?" she asked her dad. "you will see in a minute" he replied with a smile.
Down in the living room, she saw a gorgeous bouquet of yellow roses, her favourite. She picked them up and her dad guided her towards the doors that led into their massive garden. Sarah gasped. Shane had managed to set up the garden for their wedding, twinkling fairy lights lined the trees and everyone turned to look at the bride. Shane was standing at the end of the red carpet aisle, waiting for his bride. When she got to him she started to cry. They said their vows and were pronounced husband and wife, they kissed sealing their marriage. Shane turned towards their friends and family "We also have another announcement, we are not just husband and wife, we are husband, wife and baby" he announced rubbing his now wife's belly. Everyone got to their feet and applauded. Both of their mums were in tears as they hugged Sarah and their dad's both shook Shane's hand. Shane looked at Sarah and said "
now the puzzle is complete."
