A/N: Based off the new mobile game.

This first part don't have much to offer but I hope you'll enjoy nonetheless.

You received an invitation to participate in KaibaCorp's new event promoting their newly created way to duel; the Cross Duel Tournament.

Accessing a virtual system of Battle City via KaibaCorp's distributed VR headset given only to those invited, you found yourself immersed in the virtual setting for the tournament as your own personal AI.

"Wow ... this is the big time." You breathed out, amazement in your eyes as the looming buildings and displays looked too real.

Via Duel Vocal-Support, you spotted so many people bustling about, hearing their clear ecstatic voices, looking for tag partners to compete with.

And so far, you had no such luck.

"Hmm, another competitor arrives." A familiar gruff voice spoke.

You turned around and jumped in startled amazement at who it was. One of your big time fan girl crushes of all time~!

"I can tell because you look lost. Allow me to help you."

THE Seto Kaiba offering help? That was new, considering his usual ice cold demeanor.

"Find a partner who suits your style of dueling. I suggest you start looking."

Your fluttering heart tempted you to ask, to try, if just this once. "Um ... will you be my partner?"

He scoffed. "Heh. You have guts to choose me."

You beaded some nervous sweat, mentally kicking yourself for fooling yourself into believing he'd agree.

"You must think that you have the skills to keep up with me ... that or you have none at all and need me to bail you out."

You ducked your head to hide your burning red face of embarrassment, muttering, "Uh, I'll accept no as a response - "

He snidely smirked. "Let's find out which of the two it is ... Fine! I'll be your partner to cross duel!"

Your face snapped up at hearing his response; eyes twinkling bright to his own startled amazement. "R - Really!?"

"But! Depending on the outcome, this might be the ONLY time I team with you."

"T - Thank you!" If this was your one and only chance to duel alongside one of your greatest crushes slash dueling idols, then so be it!

"Word of advice ... NEVER hold back in a duel!"

You stayed right by his side as he scanned your surroundings whilst walking about the crowded city. "Now, who shall be our first opponent?" His blue eyes sharpened on one in particular. "Ah interesting."

Your eyes followed his line of sight and your heart panged against your chest when spotting a certain tri-colored star shaped haired duelist, chatting with someone.

"Yugi Muto ... He'll be the perfect test for you. Show me what you can do against Yugi!"

"I - that's a tall order," you mumbled nervously.

Kaiba's eyes narrowed. "I only invited those who I deem worthy to this tournament. So I know you won't back down from a challenge. Especially one such as this. If you have the guts to ask me to be your partner, then this is no different."

Well, he had a point there. You took a deep breath before approaching said duelist, your call out wavering before turning loud and clear.

"Y - Yugi Muto ... I - I challenge you to a duel!"

His head turned to show his startled amethyst eyes at the declaration before noticing the cutie such as yourself with his greatest rival Kaiba approaching close behind you. He smiled broadly, responding in a matching booming voice. "And I accept! It's time to duel!"

He, along with his chosen tag partner; faced against you two.

"Try to keep up with me ... because only those who master the tied of battle will emerge as the victor!" Kaiba declared.

Your first official cross duel was an experience.

Your mind electrified, your heart racing, your inner joy reaching its peak.

Dueling alongside Kaiba while also dueling against Yugi; a chance you never thought you'd get and would relish it for all its worth.

With your own quick worked strategies and specially favorited cards; witnessing your precious monsters alongside Blue Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician moving about on the open field, you managed to hold your own in the intense battle.

But to everyone's surprise; especially to those two, you achieved the near impossible.

In the heat of the moment, you had a shot, and you took it.

You came out triumphant!

"Argh ... my old strategies don't work in a Cross Duel!" Yami growled, frustrated with himself.

"It was still an amazing honor to duel you, though!" Your admiration for your other dueling idol slash big time crush came through.

"And this was your first battle?"

You nodded, smiling bashfully. "In this tournament, I guess."

He started smiling himself; strange emotions alit in his eyes, impressed at you. "I never would've known if you didn't tell me. What's your name?"

You admitted it shyly.

" ... Y/n? It's great to meet you! Since the tournament has only begun, I know we'll run into each other again. And I can't wait until we do!" He offered a hand for you to shake which you kindly did.

"S - Same here!" You deeply hoped so.

As he nodded at Kaiba in acknowledgement before taking his leave, you stared longingly at his backside; holding your hand in the other as the warm firm sensation his own left imprinted in your skin sent such nice flutters through your nerves. A rough coughing sound reminded you of your tag partner's presence.

"Even though I was your partner, you did the dueling on your own. And defeated Yugi ..." His eyes were hidden by his bangs; a single bead of sweat trailed his cheek.

You paled up, knowing he of all people wanted to dethrone the King of Games himself more than anything!

"I get it if you don't want to be tag partners anymore because of it." You sulked.

"Only so I can face you myself in the arena. Whether that was just plain luck or not, I want to see what else you can do. So ... don't get so teary eyed on me, got it?" He gruffly stated, going a bit soft, as his stern blue eyes noticed the glossiness in your eyes.

"You're ... not mad at me?" You timidly asked.

He sighed, exasperated at your impression. "I'll admit, I wanted to have a shot at him. But you had an opening and you took it. You gave it your all. So ... congratulations. You earned it." He looked disinterested; though his blue eyed gaze blazed with such strong emotions that made you almost forget to breathe.

"Thank you. Dueling by your side was an honor." You gratefully smiled.

"Oh ... you'll see me again, sooner than you think." He corrected you; his trench coat ruffling in your face, as he strides off.

Well, that was ... something.

New problem now.

"Wait ... I STILL NEED A TAG PARTNER!!!"
