When all hope is gone

Man of the world gave me so much sad inspirations for the last part of this chapter.

Shikadai, Inojin and Chocho have just returned from their last successful mission, which took place outside of Konoha. It's been a big escort mission. Nothing difficult that the three of them couldn't have done.
"Hey! You two are making real progress and if things continue to go well, you will successfully pass the next Chunnin exams,” Shikadai praises his two friends.
"Haha, without us you would be really lost..", Inojin jokes around in his typical way.
" I agree! To celebrate the day we should go eat something. I suggest ramen,” Chocho says, referring to the new ramen shop she and Inojin recently helped out at.
"You're only thinking about eating, fat cheek! We ate something right after completing the mission,” Inojin teases again.
"Oh, that was just a little snack. And besides, a lady needs curves…”, Chocho counters and points to her slim appearance after she had to use her butterfly jutsu in the last fight.
"Oh, suddenly you have a different opinion? First you want to be skinny to impress some guys and now when it comes to food you say stuff like that. Looks like you..." laughs Inojin.
Shikadai wouldn't trade his constantly fighting friends for anything in the world, even if they sometimes get on his nerves.
"I agree this time with Chocho and we should go eat something after this successful conclusion. All we have to do is go to my father's office and bring the final report to him," explains Shikadai.
"YAY!" exclaims Chocho, beaming with joy.

Inojin's mother shrills in Inojin's thoughts. Even though her jutsu has saved her and all of her friends many times within Konoha, it annoys Inojin at times.
Often it's just little things when she calls for him, for example to run an errand like a shopping list. She would then tell him to take it as an exercise. So that he would master the Yamanaka clan's jutsu in the future.
" What is it, mother?" he says to her annoyed.
His teammates start grinning and cracking jokes behind closed doors. But not for long. From one second to the next, Inojin's mood shifts from utter annoyance to fear, even panic.
His eyes are getting bigger and sweat forms on his forehead.

"What happened, Inojin?" Shikadai asks worried. He knows his friend well and seeing him so afraid, Shikadai doesn't know about him.
Inojin stands beside himself and doesn't respond to Shikadai's question, as if he can't take him.
"Hey! Shikadai asked you something..." Chocho playfully nudges her friend, "You look like you've seen a ghost!"
"...It...it was my mom...She was beside herself, totally confused...She's talking about the fact that we're not allowed to go to the science institute. And she talked confused about a beautiful woman... Again and again... I don't know her like that.
Shikadai, Chocho... I'm worried about my mother. I have to go to her...", Inojin explains to both of them, deep concern can be heard in his voice.
Shikadai nods to his teammate. His father's final report can wait for now, and his father would understand when it came to the "ShikaInoCho" team.
Chocho's superb intuition spoke up. She says the things he wanted to say.
"We're going with you!", are her words and the three take a detour to the protective surveillance unit of the Yamanaka clan.

Outside of Konaha, near the wall:
Two groups ( Sasuke & Mitsuki and Boruto & Sumire ) approach each other.
Sasuke can't believe how fast Orochimaru's vessel is running ahead.
Sasuke is shocked to find that there is a huge hole in the sky, sucking in buildings and people.
What the…?! is his only thought. He is sure who would be able to do this and draws his katana.
Boruto or better Momoshiki! It's time for you!, he supposedly thinks one last time about his best friend's and brother's son, whom he had chosen himself in the past. But in the end he has to realize that things are going differently. Many loved ones have to lose their lives on this day, just not him.
This reminds him of his own traumatic childhood with Itachi and his family clan...
