(Y/n's POV)

Waking up to the sound of my alarm, I groaned in irritation and shut it off. I hated mornings, that was a given thing especially as a teenager, but I dreaded this day in particular. My mom and I had moved to Japan from America over Thanksgiving break and now I was starting back to school in a new country and new environment entirely. It was uncomfortable and made me nervous. Was I fluent enough in Japanese? How would other people react if I screwed up while talking? All these things kept me in bed until my mom knocked on the door and entered my room.

"(Y/n), sweetie, you need to get up and eat. You don't want to be late for school."

I peeked out from underneath my (f/c) blanket on my futon, another Japanese adjustment I would have to make. "I'm not hungry. I'll just sleep in a bit more." Mom let out a soft hum and sighed. "Oh well, too bad. I guess I'll be eating the (favorite breakfast food) by myself then." My eyes shot open and I hurried to get out of the blanket. I could hear my mom's laughter in the hall way. She knew how much I loved that meal, and I could smell it as I sniffed the air.

"Hurry up and get into your uniform then come down for breakfast." She called up and I began undressing. My uniform hung neatly in my closet. It was a relatively ugly shade of prune purple and came with multiple colors of scarves to wear with it. I sighed and chose a dark pink colored scarf. It was the only one out of the three options that looked somewhat decent.

I brushed my (h/c) hair and froze as I noticed the three moles that adorned my left ear. Frowning, I covered them up with my hair. As I ran down the hallway, struggling to stuff things into my bag at the same time, I almost ran into mom who was about to put out some laundry to dry. She had always been a morning person and got a lot of work done early in the day.

"The food's in the dining room." She said, smirking at me almost losing my balance. She joined me in the room soon afterward and we happily ate the meal before she sent me off with a goodbye kiss. "Remember your conjugations when you speak, and have a good day, sweetie!" I waved to her before walking away to school.

The fall scenery in Japan was beautiful. The vibrant orange and red leaves of the trees were pleasing to the eyes and littered the stone-paved ground in a way that made me happy. It reminded me quite a lot of the American scenery that I had been missing as of late. Taking in a deep breath, the crisp autumn scent eased some of my nerves as I moved closer and closer to my destination.

As the school building came into view, so did a number of students, also arriving at that time. Boy dressed in black coats and hats walked with purple clad girls who giggled and fought over silly things. My mind raced as my fears of screwing up returned. Fiddling with my hair, I tried to distract myself.

Taking a step into the school yard, I was met by whispers from boys and girls alike, wondering who I was and where I came from. I tried to keep my head and eyes up but they both pointed down as I tried to not meet anyone's eyes. I quickly made my way through the building's entrance, I found a man who introduced himself as Mr. Kaikodo, my homeroom teacher. As he began to explain my schedule, the excited voices of female students filled the air.
