"You are not like your mother, you never will be" my father whispered in my ear.He was dying I knew that, I knew he wouldn't be with me tomorrow. I knew we didn't have enough time for proper goodbyes. I was angry with myself and with the world for allowing him to die.
"Dad-" my voice broke "please, stay with me God please we can get you help, someones gonna come I promise" I said, my voice shaking, I moved the hair out of his face, covered in blood, he was crying holding onto my hand.
"Sweetheart- this-" he started coughing "there isn't time my love" he spoke softly making sure he spoke clearly.
"This wasn't how this was supposed to go" I broke down, cradling myself in my dads neck I was crying, borderline hysterical.
"Just remember, whatever your mother told you to do, you aren't her. I love you mija" Dad said as he leaned forward kissing my forehead.
—
"My dads final moments were heroic!!" I yelled back, it had only been 2 weeks since his death and nobody believed he deserved a funeral. They said he was a filthy criminal, they were wrong, he wasn't, my mother was.
"Look I was married to him for 32 years! there were people in and out of that house since the beginning!! Karma caught up with him he did not die a hero" my mother sat on the opposite side of the court objecting everything I said.
"THATS A LIE, IT WAS YOUR SIDE JOB HE HAD NO SAY!" Over an hour I had tried to sway the court and to no avail I had failed.
"oh she has no idea what she's talking about, you were a baby y/n you know nothing" she said rubbing her temples, sighing.
"I think we've heard enough out of both of you today, the jury will decide where the money will go" the judge said looking at me with sympathy.
I had just turned 18 a month ago, with my dad dying my mother kicked me out and when my dads army package was sent his will had said to divide up the money and other personal things.
My mother had taken me to court about it and that's why we're here.—
"The jury has decided"
There were only a few people in the courtroom, family and some bystanders we were all waiting for the results from the jury.
As the judge received the letter I felt the air grow more dense, it was nearly choking me knowing that when he opened the contents it would either benefit me or break me
He opened the letter and read it to himself quietly before sighing, setting down the letter he spoke.
"Ms. Danica you get the 100k and all assets containing anything related to your late husband"
Fuck me in the ass
I groaned smacking myself, my family rushed to her side laughing, rejoicing on nothing beneficial.
Fuck
Without that money or the house I have nowhere to run, she already kicked me out and I was lucky Barb let me stay at her house. I was only 18 god this sucks.
—
Back at Barbs house"Look y/n Just because you lost the money and the house-" barb started
"And the cars and the sentimental things and everything else" I said starring at the blank kitchen walls, it had been a long day.
"Right well, just because she has all that means nothing in the grand scheme of things, I mean it could be worse at least you know your dad was a hero" Barbra said clearly uninterested in the conversation, saying whatever came to her mind.
"I guess so" I said resting my head on my hand, I needed to get my affairs in order.
Just then a knock came from the door 3 large and bold knocks could be heard from the kitchen. Barbra didn't even glance in the direction.
"Would you get that?" She spoke
I nodded in response, getting up from my chair I made my way to the front door not bothering to check whom it was.
Opening the door I was greeted with a man much older than I was, maybe in his 20s?
"Y/n?" He said sizing me up
"Hypothetically if it twas what would that entail?" I said glaring at the man, he wore all black and in all honesty looked like an assassin. I wouldn't have cared if he was.
"I'm Shōta aizawa, the underground hero" he said pulling out his hero license and handing it to me "I heard about your case this afternoon and I figured you would appreciate some help from another pro-"
"Thanks but I don't want your pity or whatever your about to throw my way sir" I said sighing looking up at him, I handed back his hero license and was going to shut the door when his foot was caught in the way.
"Is this how you treat an old friend?" He said pushing the door all the way back open, still keeping his distance on the porch.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" I said
"Do you not remember me at your fathers party's?" He said acting genuinely surprised I hadn't recognized him.
I tried searching back in my memory's for any image of this man's face, surely I would have remembered his handsome face but alas I didn't.
I shook my head
"That's a shame, I was partners with your dad for some time before he became a family man, are you sure you have never seen me before?" He said studying my posture he was sizing me up again.
"Sir I can assure you I have never seen you before in my life or at least what I can remember" growing more and more irritated at his repetition I finally shut him down.
"Look sir I've had a long day can you come back tomorrow and we can discuss all of this I'm too tired to argue with you tonight"
He seemed to understand apologizing for coming so late and left shortly after.
I tried telling Barbra about what had just happened but she was on the phone with her boyfriend.
Since the modern age of quirks people have been getting more and more bold with whom people question and there is no rhyme or reason why.
I went to bed crying that night waking up every few hours to nightmares, god those nightmares.
—
I had forgotten about the encounter completely, I clouded my mind with guilt forgetting everything I was taught. Even with my father gone and my mother displayed as the saviour, I intended to make her pay, I mean cmon now she should be more scared of what killed him than money right?
I was there when he was killed I know what killed him. She was oblivious and I was going to use that to my advantage.
