"Im so sorry" He whispered, covering his mouth with one hand as he laid the flowers, he had brought onto the grave in front of him. "I promised I would be there if you needed me and I-"
"You werent."
He slowly turned around and there she was, walking up behind him. She had dark clothes on, sunglasses and a hat but he would recognize her in anything.
"A-Amy?" he gasped, his whole body going numb.
"You promised, but you werent there, thats the thing."She sighed, stopping a few feet in front of him.
"I-"
"No. Dont speak. I only have a few minutes. So, I need you to listen. Are you listening?"
He nodded slowly, wondering how his dead partner could be standing in front of him after they had just buried her only days before.
"I was angry with you for leaving me there. So angry." She laughed, shaking her head. "After years of working together and you just left me to die."
He cleared his throat, nodding and looking at the ground.
"Im still angry but I need your help. Sooner or later, theyll realize Im not dead and come looking for me." She took her sunglasses off and looked at him. "They'll think you had some part of this and be after you too."
"But my family..."
"I know. Thats why we have to go."
"Go?" He laughed out of confusion. "Go where? I have to protect-"
"Ive already informed the Director; he has your family under surveillance and will be ready if they try anything." Amy cut him off. "We have a plane leaving in an hour. You can not pack. You cannot go home. You cannot say goodbye."
Tears welled in his eyes as he looked at her.
"Amy Im so-"
"Save it. I dont want your apology. You did what you had to do, and Ive accepted that. But we have to go. Now."
It was a quiet drive, no small talk or music; just the sound of passing cars and silence.
"Where are we going?"
"We have one last job to take care of."
