Dream
"Please, I'll do anything you want, just don't hurt them!" I begged.
My arms were restrained with chains being pulled back by two large men and I could
feel the cold stone pressed under my knees. Tears blurred my vision to the third man who towered above me. I could barely see the third man towering over me with the tears streaming down my face.
"Why should I let them live?" The man looked down at me, "You broke your promise.
You couldn't keep your end of the bargain, so why shouldn't I do what I said I was going to do if you failed?"
"Bargain? This is NOT a bargain, you took them from me against their will and you call
this a bargain? No, this is blackmail, not a bargain."
"And yet," he raised his sword and pointed it at the victim, "you still give me no reason
why I shouldn't kill them."
"Please, just give me one more chance. I promise you, I'll kill him." Dream whimpered.
"Just let them go, I'll do anything you want."
I watched the man turn around to face the wall. His shoulders were broad and he let out a soft cackle. The sound of his voice reverberated around the room as he stared up at the writing covering the walls. My heart pounded so hard I almost leaped straight out of my chest.
"Oh, Mr. Dream. I seem to have forgotten to mention one thing."
The room was silent, except for the slight rattle of chains, binding me to the cave walls. "What? Tell me."
The man turned back around and signalled at the door. Two guards that Dream recognized from the palace entered the dimly lit room carrying large bags.
"I can't let them go."
My neck grew hot as I strained to see the casters of the overbearing shadows. "Why not?"
"Because I already killed them."
My soul left my body as I was met with two rolling heads. They tilted and tumbled out of the brown sack, revealing their faces. An aged woman with whitening hair and a young blond boy. My wrists felt like fire and I couldn't feel my arms anymore as my skin tore from my bones. My entire body felt entrapped and warm.
A gasp escaped my breath as my eyes shot open. My head was pounding and I could almost hear the squelching sound of my heart restricting in and out. The room was still dark, but there were small bits of light peeking through the curtains. A blurry brunette boy stared back at me holding a blue blanket.
"Relax, it's me." He whispered.
The blanket was soft and warm over my body. I could feel my muscles relax and I sank into my chair. The last thing I remember was George letting go of the sheet just before my eyes closed again, as he muttered, "Go back to sleep."
Birds chirped in the distance. Sharp pains shot up my spine and through both my shoulders. There was an acidic taste in my mouth. My head whipped around at the sound of the double doors being pushed open. I quickly brush off the blanket in my lap and reach for my hilt.
"Good morning, Dream. We've got a lot to do so hurry up and eat."
George is staring at me, a tray of food trembling in his hand. There was something so familiar about the way he approached me. I didn't know what time it was or how long it's been since I woke up the first time, but I just took the tray and placed it on the desk. It was quiet. There seemed to actually be sun peaking through the clouds today, yet there was an eerieness about the castle.
"Why are you bringing me food?" I took a bite of bread underneath my mask.
George was facing away from me, seemingly putting something away. "It's almost noon and the kitchen was throwing out what was left of breakfast. This is the first day without my father so everything out of place, which is what usually happens, but half the staff is out with some sort of sickness, including our head chef. This was the last thing meal he made before retreating to his quarters, so I figured it would be better than whatever you can get from the kitchen at this hour."
"Oh," my eyes widened, "Thank you. You said there was a sickness going around?"
a/n:
It has been a whole lot of time since I posted, but I suddenly got the urge to write this so here is the fifth chapter. I went back and edited my old posts to just switch up some sentences. As well, I just wanted to make it a whole lot better, but the plot is still the same, so not worth a reread. If this is already out as you've read the past chapters then you would have read the edited version.
I had to go back and read everything I had written to know where to continue in the story. I've actually never read my own published work because I would finish it and then my friend would edit it. I didn't want to go back and read so I would just publish it with whatever changes she made, so basically I don't know my own lore. I'm kind of annoyed that I can't remember some of the plot points I was going to write about, but it's fine.
ALSO, THE BIGGEST CHANGE IS THAT NOW THE STORY IS GONNA BE IN FIRST PERSON FROM BOTH GEORGE and DREAMS' POV BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO NARRATE ANYMORE LMAO.
