Staring down at the rubble, the catgirl felt as if she'd perhaps gone a bit overboard. She'd meant to get a hero's attention, and what better way to do so than to use explosives? Then again, she hadn't wanted to cause any serious damage. Sitting on top of the safe, waiting for a hero to arrive, the neko felt guilty. Maybe she'd leave some money behind to pay for repairs. Of course, the gold she'd stolen was worth way more than she had, and wasn't hers to begin with, but if she wanted to be a villain, she had to act the part and actually commit crimes.

I guess I owe you a description, don't I? Her hair was a dark brown, but not the kind that bordered on black. It was a few shades darker than dry dirt. Sticking out of her hair were two large, fluffy cat ears, both the same colour as her hair. Her eyes were two separate colours, due to her heterochromia. The right eye was an electric purple, and the left was a shade of blue that could only be described as the colour of a warm summer sky. She also had a long, fluffy cat tail that flicked behind her. It was that same vibrant brown. The catgirl's name was Oakleaf. I would share her last name if I knew it. However, she went to great lengths to hide it. Nobody knew her full name, not many people even knew her first. It was easy for her to lay low, she could hide without trying. That's what made it so easy for her to become a villain. If you could even call her that. She wasn't much of the evil type, mostly just a prankster. This was her first major crime.

She had planned this for a while. It needed to be big, or she'd only attract the police. They handled smaller crimes, ones that anybody with a bit of free time and the willingness to could commit. The heroes that she so desperately wanted to grab the attention of would only come running if there was a larger crime committed. Maybe something like a bank robbery. But It had to be a big one. So that's where Oakleaf's idea to use a bomb came in. Well, not just one bomb, but six bombs, to be precise. She had planted them in various spots outside the part of the building that contained a large safe with plenty of gold. Although it wasn't exactly worth as much as it had used to, due to the large amounts that had been showing up recently. That didn't matter to Oakleaf however, as she launched an app on her laptop and pressed a key.

BOOM! ... BOOM!

Perfect. Bombs one and two had been set off. There was now a gaping hole in the brick wall, and as the smoke and dust cleared, Oakleaf could see the glint of metal through that hole. Sneaking inside, she opened the safe and quickly tossed a few gold bars and what appeared to be a very attractive pair of earrings into a bag she had brought along with her. She tried to be fast, while also making sure that she left a clear view of herself on the cameras. She wanted to be seen, to be noticed and for a hero to make an attempt to track her down. Of course, she was confident that she wouldn't be found. Not until she wanted to be. After all, she was way too smart to-

BOOM! ... BOOM!

Her eyes widened and she quickly stood up straight. She hadn't meant for the timer to go off this early! Now the hole that was in the brick wall, her only escape, was closed off. Now she was stuck inside until...

Suddenly, a deep voice called out loudly behind her. "Weep villain, and surrender! For I have arrived to say that you've done enough!"

A smile began to creep across Oakleaf's face as she turned around. This was exactly what she wanted! A hero to fight with! Although she was soon let down when she finally came face to face with the hero. He seemed somewhat scrawny, and the voice had to be an act. She could definitely take him one-on-one, unless his power was super strength. She narrowed her eyes. No, it couldn't be. It's not like he'd punched a hole through the brick wall to get back here. Glancing around, she noticed there were still no ways in or out. Not yet. Maybe his power was teleportation! The sound of a throat being cleared snapped her out of her thoughts. "Huh? Oh, yeah, right. Oh no, a hero! How did you get here so quickly? No matter, you'll never catch me!" She put on her best 'evil supervillain' act, hoping to appear the part.

The hero looked stunned for a moment, not sure how to react to the sudden change in behaviour. Quickly shaking his head, he posed and spoke again, just as loud as before. "That's what you think, villain! I shall capture you and return the stolen gold to the bank! My name is-"

BOOM! ... BOOM!

Oakleaf couldn't hear what he said next, because at that moment, the wall opposite the one with the original hole blasted open. Her emergency exit had worked! She immediately took off, not wanting to risk spending any more time with the hero who had threatened to capture her.

There was some angry shouting from behind her as she ran through the alleyways, and then complete silence. Slowing down, Oakleaf began to catch her breath and walk at a normal pace.

"HEY, YOU!"

Oh, great. He's back. Oakleaf sighed and broke back into a run. She listened to him go on and on about how he was starting out as a hero and that she wouldn't ruin his first ever fight by running away, and how she should just give up now because she was bound to be caught eventually. A couple times, he even appeared in front of her, telling her to slow down. She could tell he was getting tired, which was good for her. She wasn't feeling exhausted at all, just a bit out of breath. She could keep running for a while longer. It was starting to sound like she would need to, as the chase led the both of them past Oakleaf's apartment building.

Quickly turning a corner, Oakleaf jumped up high and kicked off a building's brick wall to land on a fire escape on the opposite side of the alley. She landed surprisingly quietly, holding her breath as she watched the hero who had been chasing her run under her and keep going. She let out a sigh as she glanced around.

The coast was clear.
