heeseung and serene have known each other since their trainee days under big hit music; they met through mutual friends, dawon and yeonjun. the two of them had similar training schedules and would bump into each other frequently when leaving or attending a lesson which sparked the beginning of their friendship. after getting to know one another for the next few years, she opened up to him about her family issues after he noticed and asked why she hadn't left to see her family for chuseok – since then, he has sworn to always be there for her. he acts like the older brother she has never had the pleasure of having; he is overprotective of her and spoils her with gifts, praise and affection. when they appeared on their respective survival shows, they supported each other and voted for each other to ensure they would make the debut line-up. heeseung was ecstatic to hear that serene was being added to the debut line-up and ensured she felt welcomed into the group by introducing her to other members and sparking conversation between them.

serene met jay through heeseung when she once visited him at one of his lessons she she finished early and the two of them promised to eat lunch together – the latter was there and asked to join them. since the meeting, the two of them have bumped into each other in the company now and then, making small talk before going their separate ways. when i-land began, serene was surprised to see him participating in the survival show but decided to show him support by voting for him; after the show, they found out that she would be debuting with the group and he was happy to know they would be working together. jay is very protective of her – especially around male celebrities – and spoils her a lot which is noticeable through their lives and variety shows. he feels like a father to her despite her being older and capable of caring for herself; the feeling is reciprocated by serene who always makes sure jay is being appreciated for his hard work and spoils him with gifts on special occasions.
