jay takes the lead

your senior year of high school started out dull, and you thought it would've ended just as dull, and not with jay park forcing your seatmate to move so he could sit with you.

your biology class was never eventful during the last semester of high school. haewon had ditched the class within the first week, which meant that you would have to continue the rest of the semester with no friends in the class. you were annoyed at first, nagging haewon about it every time you were together, but you sucked it up after a while.

biology wasn't the most fun subject, but you told yourself that you would be able to get through it alone.

the girl that sat beside you, in the end, was quiet, so quiet that neither of you ever talked to each other. you were the type of person that would only feel comfortable talking to a person if you were acquainted with them. so every time you offered your eraser to her or picked up something she had dropped, it was awkward.

everyone else in the class was people that you had never spoken to before either. you had multiple classes with some of them throughout your high school career, but you were never friends with them. there were a bunch of 'popular kids' in your biology class that took up the middle rows of seats. the popular kids never bothered you since you always kept to yourself and you expected that none of them even knew you.

none of them except for jay park; and two other boys that you happened to once be acquainted with.

the last time you had a proper conversation with jay park was most likely during the middle of your sophomore year. it was when the both of you sat beside each other (you on the right with him on the left) in your math class during the first semester. when the second semester started you remember that you had zero shared classes with him.

then, the following fall when the junior year started, jay was officially considered one of the popular kids. along with jake sim and sunghoon park.

you're certain that jake sim was the first one of the trio to become popular in sophomore year. thanks to his outgoing and charming personality and his natural good looks. then, a year later when puberty had finally caught up to jay and sunghoon park, and jake had successfully brought them into the popular crowd, their popularity also increased.

it shocked you at first to see the three of them walk through the halls so confidently with sleazy smirks on their faces as everyone around them couldn't help but steal a glance at them on their way. it also shocked you when you started to hear more and more gossip about them during your study sessions in the library, or directly from haewon.

it wasn't really hard to tell that jake, jay and sunghoon were good-looking guys. it was just hard to take in that they were the same three boys that you were once friends with in freshman year. jay park was once a nerdy almost awkward guy that would never cross his father over anything. sunghoon park used to be so lanky and shy that you would rarely know of his existence, he could never make eye contact with you for more than one second.

but out of the three of them, it was harder to accept jake's new reputation and look the most.

jake sim and you are born exactly one month apart from one another. if jake had waited one more month to be born, then your mothers would have been even more excited about their shared pregnancy (and you wouldn't have to hear about how he's 'older than you' every time you guys argue.).

jake's parents met your parents during college, and they had formed their own friend group through their early twenties. they got married around the same time and found out that they were pregnant around the same time. they even shared a baby shower together.

therefore, jake and you had been forcibly inseparable during your childhood, and over time and with age the forced part of your miserableness faded and you spent a lot of time together willingly.
