Rainy Night | 08.16.2019
As it dumped buckets, Marinette Dupain-Cheng lay on her chaise, sketchbook in hand, trying to come up with some new designs. She had made it back home from her patrol at a decent time, just before the rain had started, and was excited because it was one of those rare times where she didn't have homework or anything else to do but draw.
Marinette enjoyed the rain, to say the least, or really just the sound of it pounding on everything as it poured. She also loved the rumble of thunder and the bright flashes of lightning.
Tikki was sound asleep in her little bed, lulled to sleep by a full belly, Marinette's warm room, and the sounds of the storm outside, so she couldn't warn Marinette and tell her that somebody had just landed on her roof.
All of a sudden, Marinette's trapdoor over her bed opened and somebody fell through, completely soaked to the bone. The figure struggled to get up off of her bed, they were shaking so badly, so they missed the stairs and fell a good ways down to the ground, landing with a muffled THUMP.
Marinette stifled a shriek as all this unfolded, not wanting to wake up her parents, though she did jump pretty badly and her sketchbook fell to the floor, momentarily forgotten.
Tikki had woken up at the sound of her chosen's screech, but when she saw who the intruder was and what was wrong, Tikki decided to let Marinette handle this one on her own.
When the figure started to rise up off of the floor, Marinette's heart hammered in her throat from fear, thinking it might be an akuma.
As they stood to their full height, Marinette took in the person's appearance and her fear instantly melted into that of worry and concern, for the shaking and shuddering being had a mop of messy, wet, blond hair; black cat ears that were lowered in submission and shame; a full black bodysuit made of magical leather, adorned with a golden bell; and a black mask obscuring half of his face. Watery, green, cat-like eyes popped against the contrast of the black and they were filled with many raw emotions. Fear, anxiety, loneliness. Her heart broke at the sight.
"Chat Noir..." she breathed, trying to figure out why her kitty looked this way. "What happened? Is everything okay? Is there an akuma nearby―?" She stopped when his ears drooped even lower and he bowed his head, ringing his tail in his hands, looking ever so much like a kicked puppy.
"I...I'm sorry," he mumbled numbly. "I'm sorry. I-I don't know what I'm doing here..." he trailed off, and then a peal of thunder shook the house and Chat shrunk into himself and flinched, looking so scared and vulnerable.
Marinette's heart went out to this poor soul and she silently vowed to do everything in her power to keep that awful expression off of his face for as long as she lived. Chat should never look that way, no matter what.
Marinette stood from her chaise, recovering from her immediate shock, and slowly made her way over to him.
At first, Chat shied away from her, thinking she was angry with him and she was going to punish him, but then he stole a glance at her face and saw not fury, but saw gentleness and compassion. He stopped backing away and let her come near, though his head was still bowed, his tail in his hands, and he was still shaking from a mixture of cold and fear.
