fluff, lots of it. using they/them so everyone feels included <3

================================

This summer has been... unusual for you, to say the least. Not bad, no, of course not. You loved how it was going so far. You loved spending time with the kids, and the kids loved spending time with you. You were very understanding with them, rarely ever getting mad at them. That made you their favorite counselor. You were also a favorite among the group of camp counselors. You were a genuine person, easy to get along with and relaxing to be around.

They all adored you. Especially one certain loner, although, he'd never admit that.

Today had been a bit of a rough day. Two of the kids you were watching over got into an argument, so you had to step in before it got physical. That took...awhile, and to be frank, you just wanted to go somewhere and relax. And you knew just the place. This little place in the woods that you always went to when you were conflicted. You'd go there often to cry, no one knew that of course. You'd never let them see you like that, they didn't need to know.

The spot was breathtaking, especially at night. You knew it was foolish to go alone, but, you didn't care. You just loved being there. You loved how, when the moon is at the right spot, it makes the water seem like it's glowing. You loved how peaceful it was, how everything seemed vibrant and quiet. You just loved everything about it.

You made sure everyone was already sleeping before leaving on your nightly adventure.
You quickly changed your clothes, throwing on a jacket and shoes before escaping through your back door. It seemed everyone was in for the night, or, at least you thought.

The walk to your spot was quiet as usual. The stars seemed to glow a little brighter tonight, you noticed. You softly smile.
You feel yourself relax, noticing the familiar scenery. The feeling of relaxation was quickly replaced with one of fear as soon as you realize something, or rather, someone, was already at your spot.
You squint your eyes, quietly creeping closer. Oh! It was just Ryan.

Oh, it was Ryan.
You began to quietly panic. What was he doing here?! How did he even know about this spot? That wasn't what was bothering you, though. It was the fact that you accidentally came across the very person you were currently crushing on. You stepped backwards to leave, but just to your luck, you stepped on a branch.
Your heart dropped, watching as Ryan slightly jolted and turned around with furrowed eyebrows.
His eyes landed on yours, confused.
"Y/n?"
"Uh- oh god. sorry dude, I didn't know you were here. I just- I usually come here at night and I've never seen you here so I kinda just like freaked out. I was about to leave sorry abou-"
You were cut off by a chuckle coming from Ryan.
You swear you could have melted then and there.
"Wha- why are you laughing?"
Ryan shook his head, "you were rambling again. It's kinda funny."
You grinned. "Wow, okay. Thanks I guess, for y'know, laughing at my misery."
Then something clicked.
"Wait, again?"
Ryan stiffened. "Uh- yeah you- just you- sometimes you like, ramble about things, and it's adorable. I mean, not like adorable- well I mean it is! It is adorable but-"
You silently laugh to yourself.
"Ryan."
"-Yeah?"
"It's cool. Just messing with ya."
"Oh."
A few moments of awkward silence pass.
"How come you're here?" You questioned.
Ryan seemed to perk up at the question.
"Just wanted to get away from people for a bit. Yknow?"
Suddenly you felt a little bad. He was trying to relax and you ruined that.
"Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't know, I'll be on my way then, I'll leave you to it."
You quickly turned away, about to walk off before-
"No!"
You turned around, confused.

"Uh, I mean, no, it's fine. You can stay. If you want to! You don't have to if you don't want to just letting you know-"

"Ryan-"
"Sorry."
You smiled and shook your head.
Ryan hopefully stared at you.
"I'll stay. I wanna relax too, anyway."
The boy grinned at your response, patting the spot next to him.
You walk over and settle next to him, with a few inches of distance, of course. You didn't wanna creep him out.
You notice he's wearing an earbud, and softly smile.
Turning your head towards the scenery in front of you, you decide to try and talk with him.
"So uh, which one are you listening to now?"
"Which what?"
"Which horror podcast? That is what you listen to, right?" You furrowed your eyebrows, looking back at him.
He seemed slightly surprised, but it was always hard to tell what he was feeling. He was almost unreadable.
"Uh yeah- I just didn't expect you to remember I listen to them."
"Huh? Why wouldn't I?"
Ryan sat back and shrugged his shoulders.
"Usually when I bring them up I'm shut down or something I don't know. Didn't think anyone actually paid attention when I talked about them."
You frowned. You had noticed the group was a little harsh towards him. Well, not exactly harsh, but they left him out a lot.
"Well I pay attention when you talk, don't worry."
Ryan's eyes seemed to almost sparkle for a moment.
A few moments passed.
"The hag of hacketts quarry."
You turned to him. "Hm?"
"The podcast I'm listening to. It's called the hag of hacketts quarry."
You smiled, "what's it about?"
Ryan slightly grinned.
"Here," he handed you an earbud, "it's just starting, so you can hear it."
You looked at him, surprised. "Are you sure? I've never seen you share these with anyone at camp."
Ryan looked over to you, a tint of red appearing on his face.
"Well uh- you're... different from everyone else. You're nice to me, and you're cool. So, yeah. I don't mind."
You smile and scoot closer to put on the earbud.
A couple minutes pass, and you were interested in the story being told. You were focused, staring off into the distance with your arms crossed. Unknown to you, Ryan was taking in the sight of you. The moonlight shines just the right way, making you look breathtaking. Well, more than you already did anyway.
You suddenly snap back to reality, feeling eyes on you. You turn to Ryan, seeing him stare at you.
Your face grew warm.
"Take a picture, it'll last a bit longer."
You giggle.
Ryan stutters, his face growing red.
"I uhh.."
You shake your head, smirking.
"Cute."
You froze.
Ryan whipped his head to you.
"What?"
"What what?"
"What'd you just say?" Ryan quietly snickered.
You groaned, "dear lord, kill me please."
Ryan burst out laughing, causing you to giggle as well despite the situation.
The laughter died down, leaving you and Ryan quietly staring at each other.
"Why are you nice to me?" He asked.
You smiled. "Why wouldn't I be? You're nice to me. And you're an amazing person. People at camp are really missing out on you. You're nice to be around. Don't tell anyone but you're my favorite out of all of them."
Ryan grew quiet once again, his eyes focused on you.
You glance at him, confused at his silence. You took off the earbud.
"Sorry did I- did I say something ba-"
You were stunned into silence, feeling soft warm lips on yours.
Before you could react, he pulled away.
"Shit- sorry I didn't- I shouldn't have done that. You probably don't even feel the same."
He went to stand up, attempting to leave.
"Ryan... wait, hold on."
"No, no, I uh, I should leave. I'm sorry Y/n. That was probably like super weird for you."
You stood up, walking after him. "Ryan!"
You grabbed his wrist, causing him to turn around.
He looked anxious.
"It's ok, I'm not mad."
His face slightly twisted into confusion.
"Wha..? I just kissed you?"
You rolled your eyes. You pulled him towards you, placing a kiss on his lips which he immediately returned.
He placed his hand on your waist, the other to the back of your neck.
A few seconds pass, both of you pulling away for air.
"Holy shit.."
He breathed out.
You chuckled.
"Yeah, holy shit."
You planted a kiss on his cheek.
"Been waiting for that."
"Wait, really?"
"Yup."
Ryan smiled.
"Sooo... what does this make us."
You smiled at him.
"What do you want it to be?"
He slightly hesitated.
"Uhm, relationship..?"
You nodded.
"Then it's official."
"Hell yeah, alright."
You pull him into a hug, smiling to yourself.

"Wanna go make out?"
"Hell yeah."
