Puffing out a cloud of smoke and walking down the street, Izuku opens his rusty mailbox. Surprised, he pulls out a letter addressed to him. A letter from UA. He took another drag of his cigarette, crushing it under his foot when he finishes. Stressed, he pulls out yet another and lights it before puting it to his lips. As he inhales, he feels the back of his throat burn with pleaser, and his lungs full with the lovely black smoke. He shivers and goes back inside with the letter in hand. He didn't even bother to look at the other mail.
As Izuku walks inside, he jumps. His father is now sitting at the couch, completely sober. That was what surprised him.
"What's that in your hand, son?" Izuku gulped.
"A letter...," he responded with hesitation.
"And the other thing?" He asked, this time hinting for Izuku to answer differently. He was confused. He looked down at his half burned cigarette."It's a cigarette..." he slowly admitted.
"Get that cancer stick outta your mouth, boy! I've got news!" He says cheerily. Izuku is astonished. "I'm going to rehab to get clean. I want to be a good father," The scruffy man speaks. With a shocked expression, Izuku peers at him through his curly viridian bangs."I mean, I'm happy for you. That's good. That's really good," Izuku speaks with astonishment leaking into his tone. The surprise was evident on his face. His father grabs him, and hugs him tightly. He causiously hugs him back, and when he is released he nods to his dad in farewell. He heads upstairs, knowing his father would be trying to hustle him out of the house later so that he could have some company while heading to rehab.
He peered at the envelope in his hand and set it on his desk. He sits in the beat up desk chair and puts a hand on his head, stressed out from the thought that he might not be getting into UA. Just then, he realizes his knee is bouncing and reaches over to his pill bottle full of natural anxiety medication. He pours two out of the bottle and into his palm before dropping them into his mouth and dry swallowing them. They formed a heavy lump in his throat as they went down his esophagus with little assistance. The taste bitter, like dry tea made without any sugar or milk.
Sighing, he thinks back on the test, and then his mind begins to wander to Katsuki and Shoto. He blushes and then covers his eyes. There is no way in hell he will be thinking about those two. Especially in a moment where the anxiety and stress is so thick in the air, that it can be cut with a knife.
Izuku finally pushes the anxiety out of his brain for the time being and grabs the envelope from the wooden desk. He takes one more deep breath before ripping the envelope open and a little black cartridge falls out. He looks confused before a screen like hologram developes in front of him and he is greeted with the face of All Might.
With an astonished glint in his eyes, he listens to every word All Might says. After the hologram disappears, he jumps up and down in his room. Today couldn't be any better than it was.
