I'm depressed and I'm in a writing slump for my two fanfics on these two idiots.
Love them too much not to write, so here's a short story over 20k :)
Enjoy and please be patient while I fight off mental health<3
It's a one-shot, so there will not be a second chapter.

To Say Kate Bishop was confused was in fact, an understatement. Lately, she's been caught off guard like this many times, and for it to finally be clicking in her mind is a little bit embarrassing on her part.

It only took one year, and three months at the Avengers compound to figure out that this was not normal. And for none other than Steve Rogers to point it out, was just plain embarrassing.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to assume." The captain held his hands up in surrender as he looks a little flustered by Kate's reaction "I only thought since-"

Kate stands mortified while holding the dart in her hand, frozen. She was just about to win, again, against Steve when he had asked the question "No, it's fine. Just friends, you know." Kate nervously laughs, shaking her head at such an idea. Her and Yelena, dating? Crazy, right?

Sure, she and the blonde are close, and it does not go unnoticed how Yelena does not converse with the other members of the compound the same way she does Kate, other than Natasha, of course, but that doesn't mean that they're dating or have any other feelings other than platonic care for one another.

Has Kate thought about dating the Black Widow? Yes, many times in fact, but that doesn't mean Yelena remotely feels the same way. And Kate would be the last person to make Yelena feel pressured into feeling more than what she's comfortable with. For Odin's sake, the girl didn't have free will for most of her life. If someone were to make a move, it would have to be Yelena for Kate to ever live the rest of her life with a free conscious. That was if the blonde had feelings stronger than friendship for Kate.

"Just uh..." Kate clears her throat, her eyes darting from the super soldier to the board she needed to focus more on "What... What made you think that? Just curious, you know. I don't want other people to think that and make Yelena uncomfortable in any way, you know?"

The poor cover-up question managed to make Steve rub the back of his neck, making him focus more on the board rather than Kate "I guess I just assumed because you two get along so well. That's all. It was an honest mistake, and I apologize for making you uncomfortable."

No, Kate and Peter get along so well. The two geek out about programming and new gadgets Tony invents so that missions would be less dangerous. Peter and Kate also talk about everything else best friends should talk about.

Getting along is Bucky and Pietro acting civil around one another because the Winter Soldier was dating Wanda against the speedster's wishes. They didn't fight physically, so that was getting along.

Something else had to have made Cap think that Yelena and Kate were a couple.

"Yeah, but what does that mean?" Kate presses on, wondering if she should be on the lookout for "Getting along could mean a lot of things, and if it were up to that standard, why not think Peter and I date? I mean, we get along just fine, and I don't see you mistaking us for a couple."

"Kate, really, it was an honest mistake on my part." Steve covers his chest with his hand "I shouldn't have overstepped like Nat had told me."

Kate stiffens at the redhead's name, throwing the dart and landing a bullseye, turning to fully face Steve "Natasha said something about me?"

Not only was this worrisome, but it was definitely something that Kate needed answers to. Natasha Romanoff was by far, the scariest person Kate has ever met, which is saying a lot considering she's a lot of weird shit when it comes to Doctor Strange's missions. Every time Kate and Yelena would be eating a meal, sitting and lounging around, sparring, or watching tv together, Kate would feel the stare Natasha is sending her, knowing that if she missteps an inch, the Widow would be on her tail. Kate just isn't aware of what a misstep would be that Yelena wouldn't already call her out on.
