Chapter 1. Let the new life begin.
New York – is a big goal for many people. I was one of those. I have been there when I was about 10, but I wasn't old enough to understand, how lucky I was. Now, at the age of 15, I finally realized why this city attracts people. It's simply incredible and if I am allowed to use this word – it's insane. When I came here again, I realized that I don't remember anything, so my mission was to make memories that will last for life. I am not going to say if I succeeded, you should find out for yourself. But I don't regret anything, keep that in mind, okay?
Allyson Harper.
June 26th. John F. Kennedy International Airport.
My flight was about 20 hours, with a transfer to Istanbul, which took 4 hours. Now, I finally arrived in New York City – every teenager's dream. A girl named Sally, who worked for the New York Film Academy camp, helped me with my bags and took me to the dorms. My designated roommate wasn't there, so I just decided to unpack without her. I felt really strange and kind of empty (maybe jet lag played a big role in that, but it doesn't matter). A part of me was waiting for fun, but another one was whispering, that I will not have friends and it was better to stay home.
What a silly thing to think.
Click on the door. I hear someone coming, of course, it was my roommate, and I knew that. My hands were shaking and my heart was pounding. The moment of our encounter meant so much and if we don't get well together – everything will be ruined. But the first minute I saw her, I exactly knew, that we will be friends. She seemed so aesthetic and kind, but there was one thing in her temper that I liked the most – her smart jokes. I am not kidding; she was the one with the best jokes and I really liked that.
"Hi!" She said when she saw me. I was in my favorite comfy black shorts with a "Malibu" text on them and a random white T-shirt; my hair was tangled, so I looked a bit goofy, but in the US it's fine.
"Hey, I am Allyson, nice to meet you!" I answered awkwardly.
"I am Avery. Nice to meet you too."
After some cliché questions like: "How old are you?" and "Where are you from?" I suddenly confessed, "I am kind of an introvert, so it's hard for me to make new friends, because I am a bit reserved, too."
Avery looked at me as if she was trying to analyze my personality and then answered, "That's okay, I don't think that I am an introvert, so I will help you and I can be your friend, as well."
That simple phrase really melted my heart, so I smiled and quietly answered, "Thank you".
After unpacking all of my stuff and chatting with my parents, assuring them that I am fine, we started talking. Avery was such a typical American girl from DC, but I really liked her. I, myself, was from Central Asia, but my parents had European roots, so I didn't really look like an Asian, but technically I was. We talked about everything in the world until she decided to introduce me to her new acquaintances: Elizabeth and Hazel.
The former girl was a whole main character vibe and you would rather be friends with her or you would have no friends at all. She had brown curly hair and brown eyes, as well. Liz wasn't very tall but was very ambitious and I could smell that from afar. Overall, she was the most confident and energetic girl that I met there.
Whereas, Hazel was a very pretty girl, who seemed very familiar to me. She just looked like Olivia Rodrigo, but her hair was short. Hazel had big Bamby eyes and a beautiful smile; I knew that every guy would like her. I introduced myself, which turned out a bit vague and blurry because my voice was a bit shaky, but the girls didn't seem to mind.
