"So you want to use me as a guinea pig?"

Dr. Sengupta did not show any reaction to Vishakha Chatterjee's words.
He said "This drug has already been successfully tested on guinea pigs and primates like monkeys. Now is the turn of humans."

Dr. Sengupta's voice sounded confident. But that could not particularly reassure Ms. Vishakha Chatterjee.

She is still hesitant.

Is this an opportunity or a trap ?
Vishakha Chatterjee is still not sure about that !

Octogenarian Vishakha Chatterjee lives in an upscale neighborhood of Kolkata city in India. Her childless son and daughter-in-law stay with her in the same house. Both the husband and the wife hold high rank in their respective organizations. Being engrossed in fulfilling their career goals the couple did not have time to think about family, children, etc. And now they are a bit too old to have children. Their doctor said that conceiving at this age can cause some complications.

There are also some physiological problems which prevents the couple to opt for a test tube baby via the in vitro fertilization method.

Because of these reasons, both of them were very depressed. At this point of time, they came to know about Dr. Arunesh Sengupta through a family friend. Then one day, they appeared at Dr. Sengupta's clinic with a prior appointment.

"Are your parents alive?"

Both were quite surprised by Dr. Sengupta's question.
Vishakha Chatterjee was the only surviving parent of the couple.
On hearing this, Doctor Sengupta said
"Very good, if she wants, your problem will be solved."
Both the husband and wife expressed surprise at these words.
Then doctor Sengupta explained the matter to them.

But Arin didn't like the idea.
His mother is too old. He doesn't want to put her in any kind of trouble. Moreover, with age, mother has become a bit irritating in nature. Because of this, Arin has recently somewhat distanced himself from her.

But Arin's wife Ishani was impressed with Dr.Sengupta's idea. She wanted to proceed with it.

She tried to convince Arin.
"Just think, how you have developed a distance with your mother nowadays. If we proceed with Dr. Sengupta's idea your relation with mother shall definitely improve.
And it is good for her too. She will have a long life and we will have a child."

Finally Arin agreed.
But the final decision in this matter had to be taken by Vishakha Chatterjee herself. The procedure could be initiated only after her approval.

So today she has been brought to Dr. Sengupta's clinic.
Dr. Sengupta also explained to her the matter in detail.
The doctor has discovered a medicine which can reduce the age of an organism. But as a result, all the previous memories of that organism shall be lost and it will actually turn into an infant.
Now, with Vishakha Chatterjee's permission, Dr. Sengupta wants to apply this medicine on her, as a result of which she will become the child of her own son and daughter-in-law.

Vishakha Chatterjee's response to Doctor Sengupta's proposal has been already mentioned at the beginning of the story.

But after talking to Dr. Sengupta for a while, her head cooled down.
She understood that this is the best arrangement. Only as a child can she regain her son's affections, which she has lost as a mother.
And if this process fails, even if it results in her death, it does not matter.
Death is much better an option than the life of a neglected mother, who has lost the affection of her own offspring.

So finally Vishakha Chatterjee agreed to Dr. Sengupta's proposal.
And thankfully the procedure was successful.
Vishakha Chatterjee ceased to exist. She got transformed into "Amrita", Ishani and Arin's baby daughter.

The word "Amrita" means "Immortal one".

And , it is after her, that Dr. Sengupta named this successful scientific procedure which he discovered, as "Amritayan" meaning "Immortalization" !
