The town was already small, being isolated deep in the woods, most of the residents had moved to more profitable towns a few years ago. The few residents that remained were there because their families had lived in the town for generations, or they didn't have the money to leave. The family that had founded the town was still around, Fernas and his wife Mado lived with their four kids. Despite the town's dwindling numbers, they kept working to keep the community alive.

The fire began in the middle of the night, the only survivor was Mado. Her husband and four kids all perished in the blaze. Mado's miraculous survival was hardly a good thing, she had lost everything. She became a recluse, residing in one of the many abandoned homes and wandering the forest most days. The town pitied her, but Mado avoided everyone. The residents still worked together to make sure the widow was provided for, leaving baskets of food outside her door.

Mado was walking through the woods, taking the same path she had taken for the past year, when she heard the voice. It beckoned her to come to it, to follow its voice, and she found herself unable to resist. She walked in a trance for a few minutes, only snapping out of it when the sinkhole opened beneath her feet. It was massive, with a green crystal at the bottom. She tried to reach for something, but it was too late. Mado fell into the sinkhole, her scream was cut short as she was impaled on the crystal.

The crystal began to glow.
