Hell's Kitchen sounds just like its name; Hell. Working in a dingy coffee shop on the corner of Grand St. was not what I imagined my life would look like. Granted, I have no idea what my ideal life would look like, I just know it isn't this. Tito's Coffee Shop is definitely not the hottest spot in the neighborhood and I am okay with that because, on days like these, there's no one around.
I smile at the clock hanging right above the kitchen door, it's almost closing. Just 15 minutes more. I start to clean some empty mugs when I see someone walk in, a man. I sigh. I was hoping to get out of here early. He's tall, but not too tall. Because of his suit, I can tell he's a lawyer or something fancy. He walks up to the register, and I see the red glasses. He must be blind.
"Hello and welcome to Tito's! Is there anything I can get you today?" I ask politely.
He makes a slight smirk, "Yes, I believe you can. I'm looking for Annabeth Winters, is she here?"
I freeze. That's me. Why would he be asking for me? I look at him puzzled, "That would be me,"
He smiles, "Hello Ms. Winters, my name is Matthew Murdock of Nelson and Murdock and I am here on behalf of Mr. Julien Wuthervane. You are being summoned to the reading of Mr. Wuthervane's will and estate."
He hands me a manilla envelope. I cannot comprehend what he just said.
Julien Wuthervane? Estate?
"The reading will be held at 11 am on Thursday, November 10. Someone will pick you up an hour before the meeting. I have left all the information about the meeting in this envelope. I have also left my contact information if you have further questions." He smiled.
I was in complete shock. "I am very sorry, what was it? Murdock? I'm sorry, I have no idea who Julien Wuthervane is." I tried to hand him back the envelope, but he didn't take it.
"I know, this is a strange circumstance, but you are written in his will. You must be there." He gave me a stern, yet comforting look.
I look at the envelope, then back at him. "You said the 10th?" I ask.
He nodded, "Yes ma'am, and if you have any other questions please contact me." He held out his hand, waiting for me to shake it.
I shook his hand and then he left. I was in disbelief, who the hell is Julien Wuthervane? And how does he know me?
