I worked as hard as I could to keep the place clean. I heard footsteps approaching very clearly, my heart skipped a beat upon realizing who it was but I kept my eyes focused on cleaning.

"Hello," said a polite voice.

I stunned that he was speaking to me. I stood up and looked down. His face was friendly, open, and dazzling, with a slight smile on his flawless lips. But his eyes were careful.

"My name is Alexander," he said. "I didn't have a chance to introduce myself the last time we met," I suddenly wished I had given him the chance to introduce himself instead of bombarding him with questions.

"Hope you know me by now" My mind was spinning with the confusion of what to do now. He was perfectly polite even after what I did to him. I had to speak; he was waiting. But I couldn't think of anything to say. Aoife told me I wasn't supposed to talk to him, Immediately, I was anxious. What was I expected to do? Should I kneel before him? I had no idea.

"I must admit I followed you here," he continued. I wondered if it should bother me that he was following me; instead, I felt a strange surge of pleasure. He stared, "won't you say anything today?"

"I have already said enough, '' I said in an equally polite tone that reminded me of my place, trying to hide my embarrassment.

"I apologize fo ..." he cut me off with a wave of his hand.

"I was devastated when I walked in here, you changed my mood...so no need to apologize,"

"It's just, I was told your family doesn't come here alone,"

"I only came here when I wished to be alone, I had them sent away,"

I took that as a sign that I should go and let him enjoy his solitude or whatever that is that they do in this garden. I moved my head in respect as I have seen the other slaves doing and took a step back as they do when they are leaving.

"Where are you going?" his lips were curving into an involuntary smile.

I said as respectfully as I could manage," to let you enjoy yourself,"

"You are the very company I need right now; nothing would suit me better than making you stay,"

For some reason, this made me uncomfortable but he was smiling

"I need to water the plants," I get hold of the water pot in the corner and filled it from the fountain,

"That is heavy let me help you," he said he was still polite.

"Please let me do my work, if someone saw me talking not working, they would kill me,"

"No one can hurt you, ". His smile seemed so genuinely sweet with just the right touch of shyness that unexpected warmth rushed through me.

He hesitated. "May we ignore all that happened in ignorance and continue from the start? Today, I am Alexander And you are?

"Cassandra,"

"Devine," he said "I'm very happy to meet you, Cassandra,"

"What's going on?" Rhea appeared out of nowhere. I realized we had been unconsciously leaning toward each other because we both straightened up as she approached.

She looked at him and then turned slowly to glare at me — her face was absurdly beautiful — with piercing, hate-filled eyes. For an instant, I felt a thrill of fear, raising the hair on my arms. Her words chilled me more than the freezing winds could ever do in the winter. She was still waiting for an answer I knew that much but I didn't know what to say Alexander with all his grace and might take control of the situation and said in equally hateful tone.

"Nothing that concerns you,"

I didn't know much about their relationship but I only knew this was not the tone of two people in love.

I didn't look in her direction to see her reason but I can tell she didn't like it, I hoped now she was not looking at my flushed face, I found an excuse to run away, he didn't stop me this time

I was well aware that my league's sphere can barely touch his. Yet I couldn't stop thinking about him then I pictured their perfect faces together.

At night when I was trying to sleep, I remembered the way she glared at me. I wrapped my arms around myself for comfort and rocked from side to side.
