Simone's POV
AAHC - S2It's been a week since the threat to Bringston has happened. And I can finally say things are just starting to feel normal again.
However, my Auntie has decided to give us another mental health day just to double down on the importance of our mental health.
_____________"Simone, practice is canceled today. What are you doing here?" Thea asks with a slight attitude.
"Last I checked, this was an open facility as long as it's not occupied by an organized BU team," I respond and she rolls her eyes. "Actually, look! I don't even want to fight about this. We can just stay out of each other's way."
"Or I can just come back when you're done," she mumbles before grabbing her bag and jogging off of the court.
"Whatever!" I whisper with a hunch of my shoulders before taking my annoyance with her out on the ball.
About ten minutes later, I hear an impromptu snicker before seeing Damon walk through the gate.
"Damn girl! Who pissed you off?" He asks, jokingly, as he slides his phone inside his pocket.
"Take one guess," I answer sarcastically and he lets out an insecure smile.
"She's—- well—- the whole threat has her a little shook still. As a matter of fact, that's why I'm stopping through— to check on you."
"You mean her, right?" I ask and he shakes his head as if he's trying to erase his words. "Well, she's not here."
I hit the ball before pointing to the empty court.
"Right—- my fault!" He mumbles.
I smash the ball again and I can tell he's still watching.
"Honestly, your girl just left. And thank God she took her attitude with her. If you hurry, you can probably catch her." I tell him as I point towards the weight room entrance and he turns to look in that direction.
"Look, I know you and Thea have a strange friendship—"
"—-Calling it a friendship is a bit of a stretch. Don't you think?" I cut him off and he doesn't disagree.
"But you know you and I are cool, right?" He asks and I really would love to know his definition of cool.
Just months ago, Damon and I shared a moment that could've easily been my most intimate moment, without sex, in my entire life. Well, except for the time I got married in high school.
"Cool as an igloo," I mumble sarcastically and he chuckles.
Deep down, I know he's right. We don't have any real issues. But it's pretty difficult being his friend, knowing his girl can't stand my guts—- most days.
