Violetta (narrating):
After León walked out of the restaurant, leaving me alone with my anger and confusion, I couldn't go home yet. My chest felt tight, my thoughts were spiralling, and I needed a moment to breathe. So I crossed the street and went into the bar opposite the restaurant.
I stood at the counter, waiting to order something — anything — when a girl stepped up beside me. She stared at me like she recognised me, which made my skin prickle.
Violetta: Can I help you?
She tilted her head.
Gery: You look familiar. Did you ever date León Vargas?
My stomach dropped.
Violetta: He was my fiancé. We... broke up tonight. Why?
She shrugged casually, like she was talking about the weather.
Gery: Oh. Nothing. I just... used to see him. Back when he was fighting with his girlfriend. Violet or something.
My heart stopped.
Violetta: I'm Violetta.
Her eyes widened slightly — but not with guilt. More like amusement.
Gery: Oh. Well... yeah. We were together for about six months.
The room spun.
Violetta: Six months? You were with him for six months?
Gery: Mm‑hmm. Even when he got back with Violet—sorry, Violetta—he still came to see me. Motels, late nights... he didn't exactly hide it.
She sipped her wine like she hadn't just detonated a bomb in my chest.
Violetta: What's your name?
Gery: *smirking* Gery. Why? Did he mention me?"
Violetta: No. Not once.
Her smile faltered for the first time.
Gery: Well... I'm sure he will now.
That was it.
I couldn't breathe.
I couldn't think.
I left the bar, called a taxi, and went home. When I arrived home and opened the door, the first thing I saw was Skyler curled up asleep on León's chest. They were both knocked out on the sofa, her tiny hand resting on his shirt.
For a moment, the sight softened something in me. It was peaceful... almost perfect.
I stepped closer, just watching them. That's when León's eyes opened slowly. He looked at me — calm, almost relieved — like he'd been waiting for me to come home.
Violetta: We need to talk. Right now.
He nodded once.
León: Then talk.
Violetta: Not in front of Skyler. Kitchen. Now.
He carefully lifted Skyler into her playpen, making sure she didn't wake, then followed me into the kitchen. As soon as he closed the door behind us, he started apologising — words tumbling out, trying to fix something he didn't even know was broken.
But I wasn't listening to apologies.
I wanted the truth.
About her.
I turned to him, my voice shaking but firm.
Violetta: I'm not interested in 'sorry,' León. I want to know who this girl is — this Gery — the one you were with for six months while we were together.
His face changed instantly.
Shock.
Recognition.
Guilt.
And that was all the confirmation I needed.
