Unfortunate - Chapter 4: Puzzle

I winced at the look she was giving me, My desire right now was to say something to Aqua, but I refrained from doing so because I didn't want to hurt Janice anymore. I couldn't think of anything to do, so i thought i'd just get out of their sight. "I'm out." I said, as i fled from the cabin. I didn't want to stay in a cabin with a bunch of weirdos, honestly I'm getting suspicious of those two. I ran around the woods for a while, seeking out Kristen, I knew it wouldn't be that easy, but it was worth a try. "Kristen!" I called out, but there was no answer. I continued to explore the forest for a good hour now, and that's when it hit me! What if.. The murderer got to Kristen before me? I started to shake, and that's when a bush rustled from behind, i immediately turned around, i'm not taking any risks. "Come out!" I yelled. The bush rustled as something was making its way out, i have to admit, i was a bit frightened. Just to be cautious, i took a few steps back, the figure came dashing out! However, i was mistaken, how could i get a measly squirrel mix up with a murderer, i'm such a fool.

"Who goes there?" Asked a familiar voice. Could it be..Kristen? All this time i've been looking, she was in the exact same spot. "Kristen!" I called out."M-Mia?" She asked, sounding almost astonished. She ran out of her hiding spot and pulled me into a hug. "I'm sorry..." I whispered into her ear. "Don't worry about it." She said. I was really happy to have found my dear Kristen, i thought she was gone forever. "I missed you a lot, and you were right about the cabin." I said, tears streaming down my cheeks. "I have something to tell you." She said, with a very serious expression on her face. No... I hope she's not gonna tell me that shes the murderer, i trusted Kristen the most! She cant be! "Hey, i can read minds..I'm not the murderer..." She said. "What? Really ? And I'm so glad!" I screeched. "However..." She said. "However what?" I asked. "...i know who the murderer is." She continued.

"W-When did you know?" I asked. "From the beginning, why do you think I went to the woods at the start?" She said. Everything seems to be adding up, the only two suspects are Janice and Aqua, however it would only make sense if Aqua was the murderer. But then again.. Why was the victim defending the perpetrator? "Correct." Stated Kristen. Thats right, i forgot she could read my mind, how embarrassing. "Who is the true murderer?" I asked. "I'm sorry, but if i told you, it would change everything. Trust me, I will bring down the murderer myself." She Kristen. I'll have to take her word for it, after all she's the smartest amongst the two of us. Kristen is the only person that I can whole heartedly trust, she is indeed a true friend.

I nodded agreeing with what Kristen had just said. "May I have a hint at least?" I asked demandingly. She gave me a weird look, but answered me. "It's one of the two." She said. My eye widened, to be honest I didn't think it would be any of them, however this is a serious matter, and they must be brought to justice. With our gift of counsel, we will surely decipher who the real assailant is. I had a lot of trust in Janice, but now that it's come to this, there is a 50% chance that she could be the murderer. But, honestly i wouldn't be surprised if Aqua was the killer, no I would actually be surprised if she wasn't. Now that I think about it, maybe she reacted like that due to the shock she was experiencing, but that is no excuse to put your own friend on the line.

I was disgusted at the thought of my own friend being a murderer, hunting each of us down one by one. "There's only one thing to do.." Said Kristen. I looked at her, as she was trying to make a point. " ... We're going back to that Cabin." She finished. I cringed at the idea, however I knew it was essential to putting together this puzzle. "S-Sure.." I mumbled. I was totally against the idea, but I decided to go along. We began to hike, making our way towards that slaughter house. I had a feeling that another life may be taken, and that would leave us with the murderer, but we should've thought again. When we arrived, blood stains were everywhere, and there was a loud scream, coming from the washroom. I sprinted over there, so find Janice being hung, she was squirming, trying to loosen the rope tied around her neck, but it didn't work. I couldn't stand seeing my friend slowly die, i quickly searched around the washroom and found a pair of scissors on the ground, I pick it up and cut the rope. Janice fell to the ground, holding her neck and crying. " I thought i was finished!" She yelled, then pulled me into a hug. "That means Aqua is the mysterious assailant..." I said. " Sh-She's gone..." Janice said under her breath, as more tears escaped her eyes. " What?!" I jumped. What did she mean... Is she trying to say that Aqua is dead? That's not possible! "Is Aqua dead?" I asked. "Yes..." Janice mumbled.

I walk out of the room to see Kristen there, she had a serious look on her face. "What?" I asked. She just walked away, as if telling me to follow, so i did. She looked down, I'm guessing she's expecting me to look too, so i did. I was full of guilt, Aqua wasn't the murderer, how could I accuse my dear friend for committing such a crime? I'm a horrible friend.... "Aqua.. I'm sorry." I whispered, and dropped onto Aqua's corpse crying and hugging it. In the group, I was the closest with her, and now she's gone! However, I knew it wasn't as painful as the pain that Kristen feels, her lover was killed on the first day we got here, they promised each other that they would have a good time together, but i guess luck just wasn't on our side. I've now lost hope of finding the murderer, however if what Kristen told me back then was true, then would it mean that Janice is the murderer?
