Harry

22 April 2091

It's been a year. Today. One year since this invasion began. One year since I woke up every day under the bombardments in the surrounding streets. One year that I am stuck in this city. One year that every day I do the same routine as the day before. One year that my brother died. One year that Deadly have taken over the world.

6 a.m. is displayed on my alarm clock. I get up, get dressed, go downstairs to eat. My food that I prepared the day before is laid out on the dining table. Next to it the letter I wrote to my parents. I wrote this letter 6 months ago after their disappearance. I remember that day very well. I woke up as usual. I went downstairs to have my breakfast and say hello to my parents. But when I went downstairs they weren't there. I shouted their names all over the house and finally found a letter on the sheets of their bed. In it was a piece of paper with the words "We love you Harry, don't forget us" and from that moment on there was no sign of them. Are they deads? Have they been kidnapped by the Deadly ? I don't know. It was after I discovered their letter that I wrote a letter for them. Anyway, I don't want to remember that right now. I take the bowl I left the day before with my cereal package. I spread my chocolat spread on a slice of brioche.

7 a.m. It's time to go. I brush my teeth, put on my shoes. I don't bother to put on a jacket, it's too hot now. I take my bag, with the letter from my parents and a gun always loaded... just in case.

8 a.m. I finally arrive at the university. It's not quite a real university but rather a shelter where we can gather to study. My way here was quite calm. Despite the fact that I have to hide and not be spotted by the Deadly troops I still managed to get here. I only heard 5 bombs and saw 18 dead. Yes, I count the number of dead. This has also become a habit of mine over the past year. I arrive in my classroom, for a philosophy class. The room is dark with pieces of earth hanging from the ceiling. There is a strong smell of dampness. I hate it. However, I feel lucky because it's only been 3 months since we can go back to study. Only the bravest ones have returned to study. I wouldn't call myself brave. I just want to come here. At home, I have nothing to do, I stay in the dark all day because of the fear of opening the windows and being spotted by Deadly. Everyone who gets spotted ends up in not a very good shape. Here, it's a bit the same, we must not open the windows and we must be vigilant to not be spotted.

9 a.m. It's very dark here. The atmosphere is heavy. Today we are only 4 to come to class. Me, Victoria, Robin and Charlen. The class started an hour ago and I'm so bored. I'm not listening. I imagine the life I could have if Deadly hadn't taken over the world. I would still have my parents, a dog, a flowery house and maybe a girlfriend. The bomb holes would be replaced by parks to walk your pet. The destroyed houses would be replaced by pretty little houses full of flowers and bright colors. I often wonder why Deadly did this. They never explained the reason for their actions. I think they wanted a sense of authority and power. They got it. It's kind of ironic because they wanted to take over and control everybody, all the territories but they destroyed all the territories and there's only 30% of the world population left compared to 2090. In the world, there is only one continent left : Maindly. This continent used to be called America, but since Deadly came they have taken this continent as their headquarters and destroyed the others.

12 a.m. It's time to eat. To eat we created with my other comrades a kind of refectory on the other side of the street. I get up to get ready to go out with Robin.

"What did you dream about this morning ? I didn't hear you." Robin interrupts me in my thoughts.

"Nothing, dude. Don't worry, I'm just super hungry."

I head for the stairs to get out when I realize I forgot the letter from my parents that I always carry.

"Damn Robin, I have to go back to class. I need to get something. Go to the refectory, I'll meet you there."

"Are you sure ? I can wait for you if you want Harry."

Robin was always a nice dude. I'm sure he's the kind of person that even in a hail of gunfire will save you.

"Don't worry about it. I'll meet you in five minutes and if I'm not there, call my parents." I answer him.

The subject of the loss of my parents was never taboo with him. He had even proposed to me, when I had confided in him about my parents, that I could stay with him and his family. But I refused.

"Ok babe, see you in 5 minutes" Robin replies.

We laugh and he leaves. I am left alone in this room. I go to look for my letter in my backpack. When all of a sudden I feel a hand grab me and throw me against the wall. I don't have time to react as I can already feel the hot liquid running down my head. I feel an icy blade piercing my stomach. I try to keep my eyes open and the last thing I see before I pass out are blue eyes.
