My heart races as I settle Miles in the back seat of my black Volvo, covering him up with his fuzzy blue blanket. "I have to go inside and grab some things, okay buddy? You remember what I said, right?" A single tear runs down the side of his pudgy little face, nodding his head. My hand automatically reaches out and gently brushes it off of his soft baby skin. "Shh, it's going to be okay. We're gonna live somewhere better, just us. No more yelling, no more Ben."

This made his face brighten up a little, a small smile creeps upon his lips. "I love you Lilly." My heart skips and I hug him tightly, not wanting to let him go. My hand reaches up to stroke his soft blonde hair."I love you too Miles, I'll be back before you know it." I kiss the top of his head and get out of the back seat, quietly shutting the car door. I take a deep breath, glancing back at MIles once more, and will myself step by step towards the front door .

I tip toe towards the kitchen, making sure to not make a single noise.  I don't know how long we'll be on the road for and Miles needs to eat, not to mention that I don't have a whole bunch of money to begin with. I grab a basket and crouch down infront of the cupboards, then I start placing miscellanious snack items into it.

Gold fish,  grahmm crackers, lunchables, my mind reads off everything I place into the basket to keep myself preoccupied. I grab some tylenol and advil from the drawer along with some bandages, placing them in the basket as well. I glance at the clock, a little after ten. My sweaty hand wraps around the handles of the basket and run to the door, only to find something, more like someone, blocking my way. "Going somewhere?"

There he stood, all six foot something of him. A smirk played upon his lips as he grabbed my hair roughly and threw me against the nearest wall face first. A sickening crunch inturrupted my cry and I feel a warm, thick liquid running down my face and my nose searing with pain. A sob escapes my lips as I feel him yank my hair back and then slam me into the wall for a second time. "Just because I don't like you doesn't mean you get to leave!" His voice roared and he kneed me in the side, causing me to double over in pain. I want to give up, just so the pain will stop, but then Miles comes to mind.

Every ounce of pain subsides to anger as I think about how this is hurting Miles, always seeing me hurt and Ben screaming at him. My breathing starts to get harder and my muscles tense up, giving him more of a fight. As I squirm around trying to get loose, my elbow comes into contact with something harshly and I hear a cry of pain as the grip on my hair lessens. I quickly take the oppportunity to yank free from his grip and grab the closest thing to me, happening to be a bottle, and swing it with all my force. The bottle cracks against Ben's face with a dull thunk followed by the sound of a crack and glass tinkling to the floor. With as drunk as Ben is already, the hit knocks him out cold, his heavy body dropping to the floor with a heavy thump, his long blond hair falling into his closed eyes.

I stand there for a moment to make sure he doesn't get back up, and sure enough his body stays slumped over on the ground. I hurriedly grab the basket and then rush to the front door, flinging it open when something black caught my attention from the corner of my eye. I turn to look on the counter top, and I see Ben's wallet.

I didn't even think twice before I took it.

My hands were shaking as I grab my keys from behind the plant where I had hide them and sprint back out to my car, unlocking the doors and hastily throwing my possessions into the passangers seat, shutting my door and fumbling to get the keys into the ignition. "Lilly, why is your face all bloody?" I jumped and turned around, my heart racing as I realize MIles was still awake. His brown eyes were wide and full of tears as he gazed at my face and I quickly turned back towards the front, grabbing a cloth and wiping it once but not bothering to get it all clean.

"It's okay Miles, are you hungry?" I ask once I had pulled out of the horrid driveway and now atleast a mile away. My eyes dart to the rearview mirror to see him nodding his head. I reached into the basket and pulled out a small bag of gold fish, Miles' favorite snack, and handed it back to him along with a juice box. "Tank you Lilly. Lilly, where are we going now?" His question was muffled by the crunching of gold fish, but I heard it all the same. I sucked in a deep breath and looked in the rearview mirror yet again, catching a glimpse of my own reflection also. My face has blood smeared on it, multiple cuts, my eyes were dull and around them dark from sleep loss, but there was a determination, and that determination got stronger when I made eye contact with Miles.

"I don't know, just somewhere better than here buddy."
