Today was the day, the dreaded and long awaited day. What's so important about today you might ask? Summer is officially over and school starts today. My slumber ridden eyes opened achingly, exposing me to the horror of morning. I took a quick glance around my room to see the familiar Spider Man curtains, laptop, and pale yellow walls. I rolled out of bed although resistant and set my feet along the tender tan carpet.
I took a quick side glance by my clock to check the time. Eh it's just 8:15 no biggie. Suddenly, realization dawned on me. SHIT no ITS 8:15! I quickly scrambled out the door and past my narrow hallway to my dads bedroom door. I rapidly knocked with the urgency of a madman. I heard a slight groan from inside and then his voice creaked "what now Tristan?". "DAD SCHOOL STARTS IN 15 MINUTES!" I yelled. Suddenly, there was a series of banging and sure enough, dad walked out looking a mess scrambling for the car keys.
We bolted down the stairs and grabbed a quick snack from the kitchen. The kitchen had the classic 90's flooring with a black and white checkering. A large circular table sat front and center with 5 basic wooden chairs surrounding it. We quickly ran past the hallway and out the front door to my dads red Ford F-150.
Needless to say I was late to the first day of school. Oh yeah I forgot to introduce myself. My names Tristan Burton and I've been bullied pretty much my whole life. Luckily things started to look up last year when I met some friends who were pretty awesome. I'm a semi-short 13 year old with blonde hair that is said to match young Justin Biebers. I also normally get made fun of for being chubby sadly. I'm also a geek for Greek Mythology and Superheroes.
I grabbed my tardy from the office and began walking towards the stairs. My mind began to race, as I remembered that none of my friends were in my current class this year. I treaded slowly down the lit up corridor of classrooms symmetrical left to right. Tiled gray flooring lined the floor, and bright radiant lights shining down from above. I stopped at my classroom at the end of the hall and read the name on the card beside the door. "Mrs Luksa" it read.
I slowly opened the door and began to notice everybody's judging stares boring into me. Blood rushed to my cheeks in embarrassment. "Hi! You must be Tristan Burton, take a seat right over here." said a white woman who looked to be in her mid twenties, 5,6 and had auburn hair. She smiled, gesturing to a chair next to a stunning girl a few highlights in her hair. I walked to my seat and sat down as the teacher began to pour instructions into the others. I looked to the girl who sat to my right and immediately recognized her.
Her name was Faith, she was in my 7th grade class last year, but we never really talked. She gave me a quick smile and filled me in on the instructions the teacher had already given before I came in. I thanked her for her help and started on my work. An hour and a half passed quickly and the teacher signaled for us to change classes. I sighed, I hate math and whaddya know? Maths next. We transitioned slowly but surely until everyone was in their seats for math.
Math was easily my worst subject, I could never understand it like my friends could. I sat at my desk and looked to see who was beside me. On my right was a tall man who looked 18 names Heath. Turns out he was pretty down to earth and cool, I like him. I turned to my left and saw a short girl with purple curly hair, she had lots of cool stories to tell and was shockingly entertaining. Oddly enough, I found my eyes wandering towards the Faith girl. What am I thinking? Get your head in the game Tristan! Pull it together. I quickly shook my head and rid myself of the thoughts.
The time had come to switch classes again. I begrudgingly lifted my bag onto my shoulders and walked into my social studies classroom. I sat beside Heath again in Social Studies lucky for me. This teacher I could tell was different, she had an attitude like no other. Man this teachers a bitch I thought aloud. Heath snickered and I quickly apologized embarrassed. Luckily, the teacher didn't hear my remark. As time passed, the teacher said it was time for Lunch. I walked with Heath for the most part to lunch until I spotted one of my best friends.
Sawyer. He was a short white 13 year old with big brown eyes and brown hair to match. He got excessively teased the year before for liking Ava Cabe, a popular school athlete. He was normally pretty quiet though unless with his friends. We both sat down at a lunch table and Sawyer immediately spoke up. "Haven't seen you in a while, how's your summer?" I groaned as for response and Sawyer laughed. "Still like Ava?" I asked slyly? Sawyer's expression hardened and turned stiff. "No" he said with a bitter tone. He began to rant all about how he never really liked her until you guys made big fuss over it. As he was ranting I zoned out subconsciously thinking of the Faith girl I had seen earlier.
Before we knew it, lunch had come to a end. I packed my things and walked with Sawyer to the trash cans. We threw our stuff away and headed upstairs and back to our respective classes. Once Faith walked in I decided to talk to her. "How was your summer?" I asked her, she looked at me with an unreadable expression and answered back "it was alright". She then went on to explain some of the things that she did over the summer and I explained some of mine myself.
The social studies teacher then walked back in and made us resume work. Class had come to an end we headed to encore, I couldn't stop thinking about Faith and felt giddy inside. I daydreamed my way through PE and then Spanish went as soon as it came.
Time skip to later in the day
I laid on my bed with a grin spreading across my face as I thought about her. I decided I wouldn't tell anyone my little crush until further notice. I reflected on my day with my older brother and told him about the girl. He laughed it off and called it baby love. I rolled my eyes and went to bed later that night.
