"Let's climb that jungle gym!" Tristan said excitedly

Suzy squats on the ground, drawing on the dirt with a stick. She looks up at the playground equipment and shakes her head.

Three kids are climbing to the top and they're all trying to pull the other one off.

"Why not?" He asks, squatting down next to her. He looks at her hand drawing before looking back at her.

"Tristan! We're playing tag. Come on!" One of the kids yells from across the playground.

Tristan grinned "ok!" He gets up and dusts his pants.

Suzy stays squat on the ground, his shadow cast over her. Her tiny hand grips the stick tighter.

She's waiting for his footsteps to retreat.

She's going to sit alone again, it never bothered her before, but the thought of it now made her feel even more lonely.

"Come on."

She looks up to Tristan looking at her with his hand extended waiting. "You're ok with playing tag, right?" He asks

The sun shines bright behind his head, she raises her hand to shield her eyes looking up at him before looking back down at his hand. It's quite dirty.

He looks down at his hand.

Reactively he wipes it over his clean jeans, she notices he had been taking care not to dirty them, before mumbling "Sorry".

There's now an oily smudge of grime smeared along the side of his pants he just wiped his hand on.

"Your pants are now dirty." She comments matter of factly.

He looks down at the smudge, "it's ok, now my hand is clean" he said smiling.

He extends his now clean hand out to her; Suzy looks at it.

She lets go of the stick leaving it on the ground, extending her hand out slowly before hesitating as it comes close to his.

She's apprehensive, it's written all over her face.

She retreats her hand back to her side, unsure if she should go with him. Fearful of leaving her safe space, far enough from people but close enough to know that someone is there.

That she's not alone.

Sounds of laughter tease her ears beckoning her with their promise of a fun time to be had.

Looking up at the boy in front of her, she reaches out placing her smaller hand in his.

With a smile on his face, Tristan helpfully pulls her up to her feet.

He walks them closer to the other kids.

Suzy trails behind him, her eyes staying on their entwined hands, not looking up.

Tristan's feet no longer move, she stops with him, standing close behind his back.

"Tristan and Suzy sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" one of the kids sing out from the top of the jungle gym.

Suzy flinches but keeps her head down.

"Nice shirt, Lucas! My sister has the same one!" Tristan yells across the playground.

Lucas turns red, and three of the kids at the bottom of the jungle gym snicker.

Lucas glares at them and all three quickly stop, averting their eyes from his.

Lucas jumps down from the jungle gym; he walks closer to Tristan and Suzy.

"Be careful, your girlfriend is cursed." He said
